Simple question. How do you best like getting around in cities? :)

Obv not all places have all the options, but together they cover most ways of getting about.

Personally, I like buses. I like being able to hop on, sit down, put my earphones in and watch the city slide by from the upper deck. Much more convenient and less hassle than most other ways of getting around, although admittedly it's a little frustrating when you're stuck in traffic and trying to ignore the kids at the back eating stinky food and listening to shit music loudly on tinny speakers. :D

Poll to follow...

Depends which city I'm in, and the lack of multi-choice on the poll = POLLFAIL!!!

Generally tho - walk, bus, metro system, car.

I usually (used to) walk. Buses are OK if you know where they start and stop. Tube systems are novel but packed, although it's the de-facto tourist delivery system in London.

Bikes and motorbikes are great but they need locking up everywhere. Hassle!

So yeah, walk. Or car.

Buses for me. Cycling is OK until you have to get off, they you are all sweaty and your hair looks a state (or maybe that's just me).

I don't like tubes/underground - too claustrophobic and boring.

I could happily sit on a bus all day. In fact we did do that in Barcelona on my 40th, it was lovely and sunny (in November) so we sat on the top deck of the open topped tourist bus for hours.

Don't mind walking, but you can't get very far on just your feet.

Hmm this varies quite a bit a think. Here some cities i've been to:

Cambridge walk, or cycle
London walk, bus, or tube
New York walk, or tube
Honolulu bus or walk
Hong Kong walk, tram, bus and tube
Chicago car
Moscow car, trolley bus, bus or tube
Beijing walk, car, or tube

basically i'd always take the tube if there was one, but would prefer to walk if there were pavements and it was not too far or scary. I wouldn't cycle in most cities as i'd shit myself.

Depends on the city, how spread out or compact it is, what walking routes there are, what trams there are, what the metro is like and how much it costs, whether buses are quick or laboriously slow, whether driving there is easy or you're sitting in traffic all day, etc.

:p

Why are trams and light rail assumed to be the same thing these days?

For me a light rail is like the DLR or this thing in Dalian

Rather than a street-level tram.
