Your daily cat and kitten news

I usually go to bed at 2am. If I happen to want to stay up a bit longer I get Tabs pestering me to go to bed. She stands on the coffee table blocking the TV. She comes up to my face and stares. If that doesn't work she starts jabbing at my knee. Then it's down to the feet and attack time. So I give in and she races onto the bed, meowing impatiently as I brush my teeth. Alright Tabby, I'm coming, dinnae fret.

Then she cuddles up to my face and gives me a look "Isn't that better?" And yes, it is.

One of the cats who boards with me has been on Atopica for years as he has a sore patch, about 1"X1", on his forehead where the fur no longer grows. His owners have spent a small fortune on tests at the vets to try and find out what's causing it but nothing conclusive has shown up although the Atopica definitely keeps it at bay. They buy theirs on prescription from Pet Drugs Online as even when you add in the £25 prescription fee from the vet it still works out cheaper as they can have 6 month's worth at a time.
That's very useful to know, thank you so much!! I got 2 months worth for about £260! Do you just ask the vet for the script then, and then go to this other site?

Jakey only does hard nuggets these days rather than well formed logs, because all the fluid that goes into him basically goes straight through, but I got up earlier and found 4!!! sizeable nuggets next to his sleeping area, so I'm hopeful that the extra fluids he's getting have helped him clear the backlog, so to speak, without resorting to the "alarming list of side effects and banned in the US" medication that the vet gave us.
Have you tried giving him any lactulose at all? Softens their poo right up. What meds did the vet recommend??

Yes, just tell the vet you'd like a prescription (they can't refuse but they will charge!) and then decided which veterinary pharmacy you want to buy it from. It's worth shopping around a bit as prices can vary. Once you've registered with the pharmacy of your choice you order and pay for the drugs but you have to download the prescription for them to check before they dispatch it to you. If you've got a scanner you can email it to them if it's a physical prescription or even send it by post, but obviously that takes longer.

Here's a Ringo, looking like he's had an exhaustive day.

However when I went downstairs I discovered what he's been up to:

This is GOOD NEWS! I used to be that person who responded to the question "How does one get rid of mice?" with a facetious "Get cats, obvs". We've never had a problem with mice until Ringo came along. He started bringing in live mice and letting them go. They'd move into dishwasher, back of the fridge, and neglected cupboards. They didn't respond to humane traps, deadly traps, poison, or, erm FUCKING CATS!!!

I'm hoping now he's learned to kill them. Or he's found a cache of dead rodents.

Anyway, what is this one? A large mouse? A small rat? Fork for scale. Thanks!
Definitely a rat. Vic does this too but usually, as he knows we shout at him to get out when he does, he tends to do it in the wee small hours and we find what’s left the next morning. Good practice is to never wander around barefoot in the dark 😳

Lil’ Bob is miserable with his scabby tail so I’ve managed to get his appointment pushed forward to 2.30 today. I’ve brought down the cat carrier in readiness and have just found Vic asleep in it so this could be a slightly more complicated operation than originally anticipated 🤔

The latter for sure - since slugs started coming into the kitchen when it rains!

At our previous home, our then cat once brought me a dead hooded rat about the same size as Ringo's prize.

She appeared to have dug it up !
So, I re-buried it and put a bigggg stone over it.

Stopped over at a mates house we had a chinese next morning woke up and thought there was noodles or sommat nice in the foil tray on the floor realised it was a white slug before it entered my mouth.

Lil’ Bob was good as gold at the vet. The vet was a diminutive Spanish lass who took a shine to him, tweaked his ears and poked his nose while telling him what a handsome boy he is. He got a steroid injection and it seems to have given him instant relief. Of course I’m the bad guy at the moment and when Mrs SFM came home (a bit tipsy after meeting her oldest friend for a drink in town, he petitioned her for food and affection while glowering at Yrs truly. He’ll get over it - esp. when he realises that his scabby arse feels better 😼

Only the best/most devious cats catch rats.

Something about the rat's reaction to cat scent - which provokes a fight or flight response. So to rise to the challenge of catching rats, your cat needs particularly well-honed hunting tactics. :D

I get the impression from the vet that isn't suitable for him and his health condition at this advanced stage - it works by drawing fluids into the gut, and since we're already working very hard to make sure he doesn't get too dehydrated, any fluid being drawn into the gut is working against that.

Sounds nice. I want to be taken to that vet too! :D

I've got a hot water bottle that I share with Jakey when we're both on the sofa, and that I put under his incontinence mat, vetfleece, and other bedding at night, it's in an old thick woven cushion cover so well protected.

Jakey now recognises it on sight and when I am settling down with him and go to put the HWB in place on my tummy he grabs hold of it with his paws and pulls it into place before curling up contentedly and me putting a blankie over him for extra snuggly comfort :) It keeps me warm too :D

Settling down for a nap on Thursday:

And on my lap in a multiple blanket cave, enjoying our shared hot water bottle, just now:

It's difficult to see in photos due to dim lighting in our sitting room (how I like it) and his normal fur colour being quite pale anyway, but he's a bit grey around his chops these days.

Thank you! And shouldn't be a problem with Pet Plan?
