Your daily cat and kitten news

We've been away for just over a week and she's really happy to have us back.

Sat on my lap twice yesterday afternoon and evening, which is twice more than in the previous month (in daylight anyway, she often lays on me when I'm in bed, funny girl), slept all night either on the bed or the blanket at the end and is now spending all morning in bed with us.

Mine was like this last night for no discernible reason

Cooler weather? In the other house long ago, I knew when the nighttime temperatures dropped down because I’d have three cats pressed up against me. We called it cat-trapped: “I can’t get up. I’m cat-trapped”.

Cat here has been more affectionate the last few nights, even inviting me to rest my hand on him, which is rare.

I’ve said before how he don’t like being petted. We’ve reached a compromise: I’m permitted to rest my hand on him if I don’t move it. Brief finger pets are okay, so long as I don’t move the rest of my hand.

It’s pretty clear that he doesn’t like it when I lift my hand and then place it down again. He accepts constant contact more readily, not the lifting and replacing.

Well, shows you what I know then! Thought confused had q marks over it.

Edit: ah, maybe because I'm on Dark theme. Can just see them when I pull up the emoticon list.
I was confused by my own smiley as I too am on dark theme and the question marks don't show up.

But yes, spent the whole night sleeping on the bed. Normally she just pops in for strokes if she hears me awake.

could have been distant thunderstorm, could be it's starting to get cold.

the mogs i used to live with were more inclined to kip on my bed when it was cold. one of them was good at recognising the signs i was getting ready for bed and making sure he was installed and (at least appearing to be) asleep before i got there to make sure i wouldn't close the bedroom door...

Right, back from vets.
He was fussing a bit when they were trying to get blood from him, vet reckons he had some sort of localised skin reaction to the clippers (no I've no idea either) so they put some anaesthetic cream on to numb the area so he didn't jump when they put the needle in.
Blood tests, urinalysis, and a newish treatment for arthritis (Solensia) which the vet suggested might sort out his incontinence as "if it's painful to walk, it's just easier for him to piss where he is rather than go to the litter tray". If that works it's a monthly injection and it ain't cheap but oh well, I don't want him in pain and this is safer for his kidneys than other treatments.
About his kidneys, it's not great news hence the tests, one is enlarged and we need to find out whether it's an infection or now final stage CKD as the treatment/management will differ.

He seems happy enough which is the main thing and while he seems happy I'm not going to make any rash decisions - he'll let me know when it's time and we don't seem to be quite there yet even though he's a bit frail and doddery. The test results may tell us otherwise of course, but we'll deal with that once we have more information.

Glad he seems happy Epona. As you say, you'll know what's best for him. He's a determined character though! Obviously not ready to go anywhere just yet.

Carrie appears to have decided she's now sufficiently settled to become fussy about food. This was not a thing in foster care...

Having eaten her way through one box of 40 sachets of Harringtons, she's stopped eating it part way through the second box.

She came to me on Sheba and Felix, and I wanted to move her onto something less junk foody, but it's back onto Sheba again for now.

I am doing the resigned face that Simon does at the end of all Simon's Cats.

She is the boss!

and thinks you make a great cushion...

:p

:(

when that first happened with the mogs i lived with, they had quite a big sulk and wouldn't eat

for at least half an hour...

It was the prolonged rolling about in the grass/garden to get the smell of the cattery off him that was old BD's big thing whenever he came home from the cattery.

Although he did like terrorising the staff. After the first time, I was always invited through to get him out of the cage myself - and he always came straight to me and the carrier. The staff looked-on in awe from a safe distance..! :D

The Auld Warrior would immediately go outdoors and roll around to get the smell of the vet off. If it was raining he’d just sit in the rain til he was wet through.

I woke at 5:00 and lay awake with no clear idea about what had woken me. Then the quiet padding of paws and the proud leap onto the bed with the movements that make it obvious : he had a rodent.

Light on, specs on, just in time to see a baby rat half way eaten, only the hind quarters, legs and tail remaining. There was discernible crunching.

Big wet paw prints on the sheet, but not a drop of blood or a scrap of fur.

I’m thinking “How many of these feasts I slept through…?”

I wish he wouldn’t involve me.
