Your daily cat and kitten news

Having had permanently indoor cats for 18 years now, I reckon you would be well off getting some wand toys and playing with them before meals to simulate hunting behaviour, it really does help :)

Hope the baby blackbird makes it, and grows up quickly so your cats can go back outside, big difference when cats are used to going outside.

Thanks - we have toys coming out of our arses and they are noticeably more interested in them now! There's been a lot of chasing each other and bad natured play fighting too :D

I do wish we'd never let them out now.

Kizzy is still out of sorts now and then, straining and trying to wee in different places
Got a little sample off to the vets earlier so hopefully find out
She has been quite dozy (from meds) too on and off
Partner has been giving her little bits of coconut oil which is apparently ok/good for them? Anyone else do this?IMG_20240711_174627008_HDR~2.jpg

Don't be too sad! Concern appreciated
Earlier she came crashing through the cat flap and turned round to batter it looking all angry!
was eating something too, I ran out the back and saw a ginger cat on the wall so Kizzy probably stole their food!
Did it the other night too battered the cat flap from the inside and looked shifty and worried for a while
she has been active and still trying to catch birds/flies too

Wonder whether she's in contretemps with the ginger cat, what with the battering of the cat flap.
Could be contributing to her weeing issues also, stress can be a major factor.

Scratching post indoors next to the cat flap might help her feel she has appropriately scented her entrance/exit from her core territory (as she can't scratch to scent the cat flap itself) and therefore more secure?

Yes I reckon it's that too, she keeps looking out and has run back in at speed a few times!
Thanks again, have put a scratching post by the cat flap :)

How is Jakey doing this evening?

Thank you for reminding me to post an update!

Other than the brief period last night where he was in and out of the tray and only able to do dribbles, he's been fine and did a big normal wee this morning.
The vet phoned this afternoon and we had a chat about it - he says to monitor over the weekend and if it keeps happening then to phone on Monday to book him in for a cystocentesis (which gives the least likely to be contaminated sample for doing bacterial cultures in the lab). Last 2 samples we've had tested have been from collection at home, so it's just a case of if he is continuing to have issues then go for a sample that we know has extremely low chance of cross-contamination while being collected.

But thank you yes he seems to be OK for the moment, so fingers crossed that continues.

I think I might have met the tortie you're on about when I lived near there.

she was in the doorway of this place. think it's a club or something. she looked like she wasn't going to let anybody in...

Good luck with the job!

I don't know what you do but I used to work near there too and it's a bloody great part of town. Good luck!

thanks. not entirely sure i want it, in all honesty...

Bizarrely, there is a club down there, in between all the recycling warehouses and soggy paper and smells from them flowing out all over the pavement :D

It is a fairly decent part of London, I feel like if you walked down Manor Road you probably saw the very worst bit of it! :D
I think there's some denigration on here cos it's not South of the River - but it's a diverse area with a good working class history that hasn't quite been gentrified yet, despite all the new builds.

It's probably more affordable to live around here than most parts of London, if you were to move for a job and still be within easy reach of your mum.
I am guessing the move for the workplace will be out of London to proper Essex at some point.

I don't really know why I adore Tobytoes more than most other cats.* Maybe it's his chubby cheeks and pink nose? Or that he just looks Mischief all over? It's just an expressive face, for a cat.

* Not as much as my own cat, of course.

Vet reckons Kizzy's sample does show signs of infection, meant to be getting anti biotics today
And they want to do a check up with a sterile sample once she's finished the course
And she has to have the pain relief/anti inflammatory daily

Kerching! for vets but needs doing and hope it sorts her out

She almost got a bird this morning! heard a commotion outside and just saw a bird escaping and her running after it with a cloud of feathers falling down

Hope she's on the mend soon. At least she hasn't lost her enthusiasm for catching birds!

Best of luck for a swift and complete recovery!
Urinary issues in cats are a complete pisser, pun intended but also meant seriously if that makes sense!
