Young mothers evicted from London hostel may be rehoused 200 miles away

Councillor Baikie sounds like a waste of oxygen.

...Newham Council is not happy. Councillor Andrew Baikie, the area’s mayoral adviser for housing, says the local authority is looking into ways to remove the group from the estate.

“It is disappointing to see empty homes in the Carpenters Estate being occupied by agitators and hangers on,” he said in a statement after the occupation. “It is equally disappointing to see them attempt to misrepresent the truth for their own ends.

“The Carpenters Estate is not viable. The tower blocks are simply too expensive to renovate and will need to be demolished.

“Now it looks as though we will have to spend more money to get protesters off the estate. It is clear that on the Carpenters Estate, the needs of the wider people of Newham are being ignored for the sake of petty, expensive stunts.”...

the quality of life for the majority in London is poor. go and live in another country for a few years and then come back. then it really stares you in the face and goes `oi you stupid bastard fack awf ya mug` and so on. (I can say that I'm a Londoner ;) )
Yes, there are many places significantly poorer than London. But it is relative. Poverty in London, and the rest of the UK, does exist. people might not be starving or at war as in other places, but that doesn't detract from the people who are living in poverty here.

Cutting off people's water for fucks sake. And the cunts that advocate this honestly believe that their actions are about 'fairness' and doing what's right. What a morally fucked up country this has degenerated into. I no longer feel part of this society or its values. :(

Quite unexpected but welcome none-the-less.

This paragraph caught my eye:

"This story is really about how the apolitical get radicalised. Because first the 29 mothers did as told: registering as homeless, spending days phoning all the landlords on the three-page sheet given to them as the sole help by the council. When that didn’t work, they chanced upon a revolutionary communist market stall and enlisted their help in formatting the petition. They set up their own stall, which can still be seen every Saturday in Stratford centre. They drew in help and information from other campaigners, passers-by, the internet."

Who's this revolutionary communist group then? And has anyone seen this stall in Stratford? With local support this could run and run.
The stall has been outside wilkos week in week out over the last year:

If it's a standard supply it's a piece of piss to turn it back on again, someone will know how to do it.
When the water crowd came to reconnect after a complaint was lodged, they said the mechanism ,or whatever, was smashed and they couldn't help. Now I'm not saying it was vandalised by the council security guards that have taken up residence opposite the centre but....

Surely it would be in their interests to fix it anyway and also call the OB to investigate criminal damage.

Well not sure of the status of the water now , but the houses were lying dormant for 4 to 6 years and earmarked for demolition , so there would have been no impetus to repair, all of a sudden the council in court on Friday have claimed that the premises were just about to be opened as temporary accommodation until these homeless single mothers put a spanner in the works by occupying the said premises, hence the need to apply for an emergency eviction order from the court ( which the judge denied them)

It's a funny ol world eh?

One wonders whose interests Newham borough council represent, certainly not the single mums.

I think it gets as far as the newham councilors only represent themselves and their mates, But then I hear Newham council spunked £110 million on a new HQ building a few years back :mad:

The good for nothing piece o shit Mayor of Newham loses his rag with these mothers when they protested at the his 'Show' back in July. He aggressively squares up to them and yells 'its a family day'. Does this cunt have a sense of irony?

Hot off the press! apparently he ran someone over in his motor trying to escape protesters outside a council meeting tonight, guardian were there filming....he is currently under disciplinary proceedings due to his behaviour at the newham show, above where he had to be held back from attacking an RCG member

Utter bastard. Let's hope he gets strung up for this.

Didn't think it was legal to cut of someone's water supply.

Water companies are prohibited by the 1999 Water Industry Act from cutting off domestic customers for non-payment. This CAB page also indicates that a landlord turning off the water as means of encouraging a resident to leave a property constitutes harassment, and is illegal.

Schedule 4A of the WIA lays out the many types of situation - domestic dwellings of various kinds - where disconnection is forbidden. It neither explicitly includes nor excludes squatted properties.

:D at the secret service guy at 1:53

These women are good. I can see them going far

Focus E15 have been running rings round Robin Wales for ages - this from March:

And notice how much more comfortable he is in conversation with one of the ‘Trot agitators’ - in this instance an older man - he's been complaining about, than he is talking to the actual young women who had been threatened with transportation out of the borough!

This is what Robin Wales thinks is an apology:

...So colleagues, we should be realistic

• The former residents of the Foyer deserve an apology from both East Thames and Newham Council for how they were treated at first and I give that apology on behalf of the council.
• We need to elect Labour at local and national government as the only way to deliver a humane welfare system and get house building back on track
• But the campaigners must also realise that deliberately misleading people about what we are doing – or what we have done for them – will not stand.

And colleagues, not one family from the E15 Foyer has
been made homeless – and no one in the illegal
occupation of the Carpenters Estate is homeless. How do
we know that? Because that is what the group itself has
said on notices it posted outside the block.
6
The notice says:
“Nobody will be, or intends to be living in the property. The
property will be permanently occupied on a rota, with
people being replaced at least every twelve hours.
Everyone involved in the protest has secure housing
elsewhere, and that is where theylive"

Proper dirty tactic that. They had to stick that notice up as residential squatting is illegal. Utter toerag.
