WTF? Girl in China Run Over and ignored

Anyone just see that on the news?

Little girl in China is run over by a van, first by the front wheels, then the back. She's lying there for ages writhing in agony as people just walk past her. :(

Critically ill in hospital now.

Been the hot topic on the Internet here for days, with everyone moaning about moral decline. She actually got hit by two vehicles, as was still lying in the road after first one because no-one moved her.
There's a bit to the moral decline thing, and also to the fact that the woman who did save the girl, a Mrs Chen, was one of the urban poor who make a precarious living picking through bins for rubbish to sell to recyclers, so everyone's noting that it's the new elites who are worst. But as has been said in previous similar shock stories, the thousands of incidents where people do help don't get in the news.
There is another aspect where a judge in Nanjing awarded damages against someone trying to help an injured person who made things worse unintentionally (IIRC), plus cases where the person helping has been sued for damages as if they were the cause of the incident.

I'm sure I remember reading a story a while ago (can't remember if it was China) of someone trying to sue someone else who broke his fall when he was trying to commit suicide

I think the sorry state of the medical system would be another factor - if you take someone to hospital you're going to have to guarantee the bills even for ER I think (might be wrong there), so that would put people off. But not even stopping to get her off the road and call the cops is dire, obviously.

Ah, see I got that Nanjing judge reference wrong - he was also agreeing that the person who helped had committed the original offence.

They all call Mrs Chen a rubbish collector in the English reports, like she has a job with the council, but it's clear in Chinese that she's having to root through bins to find stuff to sell (拾荒). Reform and opening for you.

well if there is no video, then there is no story.

You want to see a child run over by two vehicles? actually driven right over?

Either you're trolling this oh so fucking funny story which makes you a cunt, or you're just a cunt.

I don't mind which cos either way.......

We got warned when I started work in Dubai, that if you try and help someone and they die, it will be you who is responsible for the blood money.

Fucked up place, the sooner it crumbles back into the sea the better.

There's definitely video of it, they're not so squeamish about showing gruesome stuff here (same with the bodies of the Chinese fishermen murdered in Thailand recently), but I didn't watch. Not sure why you think it's made up, Stanley. The basic facts of the incident are not much in doubt, though of course you can argue about what it all means, as people are doing here.

True. It was probably a blurred out dog and that woman dragged it away to eat it so there's now no evidence

Erm...

Don't be stupid.

It has been reported that 2 trucks ran over her. Where is the video footage of that? Why was the CCTV footage released anyway? Could you honestly state in court that you saw a women drag a 2 year old girl off the street from what you have seen? The words have made the images in your mind.

It's contemporary propoganda. It's bollocks.
