WTF are they doing to the kids playground in Max Roach park?

To be honest I think its a great idea, disabled children have very few opportunities to play and enjoy any form of physical exercise and if this allows them to get a chance to do what non disabled kids take for granted then IMHO its well worth the small loss of open green space. It's also fantastic to see that the Council have planned this with the Changing Places scheme in mind http://www.changing-places.org/ . Now I really am no fan of Nu Labour in Lambeth but credit where credit is due!
Well, they're really putting the squeeze on the Charlie Chaplin Playground just down the road which caters for kids with disabilities and their siblings and friends and has been for nearly thirty years, so no credit to Lambeth at all.

Have they had a funding cut? No surprise really I think the next few months are goimng to see massive cuts in Lambeth services for disabled people particularly in the local voluntary sector. Hopefully they dont follow the Croydon line - but I aint holding my breath! http://www.croydonguardian.co.uk/news/8283322.Volunteers_continue_cuts_protest/ Oh and watch how Steve Reed tries to 'spin' the cuts under the guise of people power and the Co-op Council!

Anywaaayyyyy . . . I still think the park is a good idea!

It may have taken a while but result is brill, one of the most imaginative playspace in the area- can't get my kids away from it.

They have turned a boring green dog lavatory with some nice trees into a really interesting place to be. whatever your age.

Brixton Castle rules!

You are kidding right ?

I've been wondering for weeks whether they are going to come and finish it off, it looks a complete and utter mess. Dangerous too imo.

Happy to admit that it has turned out much better than expected. Am quite surprised that what looked like foundations for a toilet block turned out be a rather strange but unobtrusive second 'ruin'. Will be interesting to see how the new features and spaces get used, not just by the children but by the Max Roach drinking club.

No sign of the alleged video screen going up yet and am still a wee bit sceptical about how practical it is sited just a few yards from noisy Brixton road and how much it will be used during the winter.

It did drag on didn't it, but big push on this week and its all done and the scaffolding has come down. Kids are happily going crazy over there as I write this. :)
