Not sure if you will consider this post 'blatant marketing', or fair argument, but mix it all up and you get an all organic, all artisan (practically bespoke) meal for 4 for £10.15, including wine.

That's NUTS, really.

Yeah, but if I've had to fight my way through crowds of braying Clapham poshos to get it, then it's just not worth it :(

What's wrong with you! Poke them in the eye and demand Brixton justice.

If you can't 'persuade' braying poshos into queueing obediance then you're in the wrong part of the city.

Honestly, there were two of us right, neither of us pushovers, and we couldn't get near the bloody counter for three wheeled buggies and posh mums and dads asking if the pasta was gluten free (or summat) because of little Caspar's allergies. It was horrible

You see that mouth thing? Complain if they jump their turn. And loudly at that.

I've honestly never understood the reticence to speak out amongst old style Brits. Well, unless the other party's carrying a piece rather than a 3 wheeled bugafuckingboo that is

We did complain. We complained loudly. They continued to serve people who had pushed in. We left.

Does blueskyview have an interest in this venture...
Judging by his "teh working class is ignorant and eats shit" knocking copy directed at the rest of the market (which, of course, is the environment that attracts the passing foot traffic for the new food boutique), my guess would be "Yes".

I think the best advice for the new venture may be to keep the plum away from public relations and marketing

It is, I suppose, possible that if this person had had a child who suffered grievously from an allergy to gluten, he/she wouldn't make such a remark. I guess it was an attempt at being sarcastic but in practice just makes clear that he/she is a complete jerk.

It's possible, thanks for pointing that out, I'd have been quite   otherwise.

I can see you're really working at building an appealing image!

in the granville arcades.

Market Row, shurely! Chance would be a fine thing that anyone invests in a new business in Brixton Village (Granville Arcade as was) at the moment.

I popped in this afternoon after the yummy mummy brigade had departed and the store was depleted. Picked up a few non-essentials like bottled Sam Smith's organic ale and some comte cheese at prices a darn sight more reasonable than Borough Market.

Was offered a complimentary glass of their home bottled vino from Piedmont which had otherwise sold out - it was very gluggable - and some of the home baked cheese biscuits - potential to become the crack cocaine of the savoury comestible world.

My test of success is whether it brings back locals with a bit of cash who have deserted the Market in recent years because of the absence of decent bread and veg. Hopefully the fishmongers and some other traders will see the benefit of their custom as
well.

Having said all that, I have to agree that blueskyview's contributions have not been helpful to the business!

we went for a coffee yesterday late afternoon as well and have to say their coffee is really good. also got a complimentary wine i think it was some kind of launch thing going on.

will be back for more coffee for sure :)

I was talking to someone who has a shop around the corner and he says he thinks theres been a knock on affect due to the popularity of the pizza place.

I’m not convinced that’s been a massive factor in the decline of the market tbh. To me it’s more the fact that it’s stopped being the only place where certain foods were available, making it a must-visit for every West Indian and latterly African family to pop down to. It was a regular destination and meeting point when I was a kid – a weekly pilgrimage at least. And now, as the community’s dispersed out more to the suburbs, local shops and grocers have followed them and there’s less need for a central ‘ethnic’ market hub, particularly now everyone’s more spread out.

I’m not convinced that ‘monied’ locals have been deserting the place in significant numbers – to be fair , my experience is that many of those have always regarded the market as downmarket or full of ‘funny’ foods. A few of the better trad stalls have gone, but often people don’t even think of looking there in the first place.

But you’re right about blueskyview. He’s not covered himself or the shop in glory with his contributions.

yes i agree with that!

i haven't observed a recent decline in the market though its busy as usual and especially saturdays people come from all over london to shop around here. if anything it is true that there aren't that many posher places with ie good quality wine -so i feel all positive about the two new places. plus as a new mother i realised the arcades are great in particular in this time of the year when the weather isn't brilliant.

will still go to rosies though. her coffee is also very good! :)

:D

Wildcaper is still a cool shop. especially the coffee ;) but also the bread -yam!

I have to say the starter they gave me is going great guns, and I'm turning out some brilliant bread these days....

Sorry to resurrect this one, but...

The level of service in Wild Caper is shockingly bad. I was told in a rather offhand way to serve myself to cake (no easy task when carrying shopping, when one cake isn't pre-sliced and there isn't a knife etc etc). I then waited bloody ages for someone to relieve me of my hard earned: Nobody at the counter except someone from the kitchen putting away cups who just smiled ruefully at the now 5 deep queue and shrugged (would it have killed him to call someone who could help?) and when someone did eventually appear she was more interested in making coffee than serving the people waiting.

If the cake wasn't so yummy I would swear never to go back...

I went in about a week ago. I was with a mate. We were both prepared to splash a bit of cash on lots of lovely goodies.

But...

They need to get their queueing system sorted out, or summat. By the time they'd served about the fifth braying Claphamite who just pushed in , and ignored us when we'd pointed out that it was actually our turn :mad:, we decided to leave. Without buying anything, obv.

I'm afraid I'd much rather go to Spoon on New Park Road and give my money to the lovely Nell.

^^^ This was from November last year. I'm sorry to see things haven't improved.

It seems to be a problem in 'trendier' food shops the world over. For some reason the staff seem to think that dealing with the public is beneath them. There's a coffee shop near where I work where they're too cool to give you the right sandwich. Tres dull.

Yes - service is rubbish. But not snootiness methinks - mere incompetence.
