Heating went on Oct 1st so yesterday but Wednesday & Thursday I was close to breaking as I was so cold. We try & keep off April-Oct but this year we had it on a bit in April.

Moved to this house in Jan so this will be first autumn & winter. Previous house had a large log burner & an open lounge to kitchen plus open fire in other lounge. This house has a large kitchen with a huge window & it’s already very cold I’m there. We have a open fire in the front lounge again which is great but nowt like the log burner.

Leccy blanket going on today too.

Not yet but have a tonne of wood being delivered today - and it's pouring with rain, worst possible day for it to be delivered. Lots of work, lots of wet.
Firewood? Bit late if it’s for this year, isn’t it? You’re meant to have it stacked outdoors all summer, getting dried out. Or maybe it’s for next year and you‘re starting early.

MrCurry i have a few wood piles , got the wood I’m drying I get from various sources , bags of found kindling & the wood I buy.

Just changed my sheets & was surprised I had only a 3 tog duvet on! I have put on a 9.5 as putting them together would be too much for now. Leccy blanket is on though.

It is not exactly cold out (12° in the flat)

Feeling a bit under the weather atm so might take the plunge earlier this year :hmm:

Does anyone have a heating system you can do from your phone & heat individual rooms only? I’m trying to look into that.
I've got a couple of radiators that I can control via Google Home - handy if I'm coming back from a day away and would like the bedroom to be a bit more toasty on arrival.

But they're switched off at the wall at the moment - it's starting to feel a bit cold when I get out of bed, and if I have a shower, but it's going to get a lot worse in Winter, and I want to acclimatise myself to the cold. Not to mention avoiding a hefty electricity bill :hmm:

Yes we have a Hive that can be controlled from a phone or Alexa
It can support controlling individual rooms but you have to replace the thermostatic valves on the radiators with Hive enabled ones which we haven't done.

Funnily enough when I made Sylv from next door jump taking the bin out on Thursday the first thing she asked was if we had our heating on yet.
Not quite enough cumulative heat loss in the house yet. Not quite. Probably some time next week it'll go on for a couple of hours before we get up.

When interest rates dropped, I didn't alter the DDI, so we ended up paying off our mortgage nearly three years early. I put the same as we were paying for mortgage into a separate gas and electricity account. This has accumulated over time, and despite the account paying £1500.00 for a new boiler, and paying bills as they become due, it stands at over five grand. We will be warm, grumbling like fuck about the increased bill, but we will be warm.

On that note it is 11C outside at the moment.

After resisting the last few days, I've folded today, but it only took 15 minutes to warm up, before it switched off again.

I've got it set at 30, but that's because the thermostat is fucked, not me being being mad.

Ours is set to 19, 18 at night, and it clicked on one evening this week for the first time. Definitely a bit cooler in the evenings now.

That cat is basically your canary. Watch that cat.

Funny you should say that, there was an occasion a couple of years back when I became hypothermic. I had retired, but Mrs Sas was still working, and I refused to put the heat on just for me. The first I knew that something was wrong was Mrs Sas appearing in the computer room to ask why I hadn't come and picked her up. I was shivering and confused. It was -5C outside.

No, cos we are impoverished. I am, however, furiously knitting (although to our vast dismay, sweetheart appears to have mislaid his 'winter' jumper (a lovely Norwegian handknit he has owned for years).
We also have sheepskin slippers and a hairy, compliant dog so not really considering putting heating on for a few weeks yet.

Fire blazing and i got the most wondrous new fluffy dressing gown / house coat last week. it is dark grey extremely fluffy and has massive pockets and a hood, it was sat there on its own, last one left in the men's section of the big sainsburys. Cat approves of the whole situation.
