Who lives in a van? Or wants to?

THis made me laugh....someones hires a campervan and goes to Scotland in winter and gets paid to write it up for the Guardian

Ah the magic! But read closely and the details emerge:

"I’ll be honest: we’re not hardy enough to stick out four nights in the caravan [sic] at this time of year and only spend the first night in Rowan (the camper)." lol

Is spending all that money on a campervan (+hotels) worth it? Yes becasue its an expensive kettle on wheels:

"Still, having a van is a real treat. At lunchtime, Rowan really comes into her own: we park beside a narrow burn on the Glenlivet Estate and make tea to accompany our sandwiches"

I imagine if you can plug in and get a little heater going you should be okay tbf

Btw, we are dipping our toes in to the van world, both of us have long lusted after vans, free-parties/teknivals during 90's and 00's would do that to you, but life has very much got in the way.

Came across this thing, like an Air BnB for vans: Campervan Hire - Motorhomes, Caravans & Campers | Camplify and have booked one in to pick up locally and take to Beautiful Days in August, see how we get on, then if all good work out how much we can spend on one, where to keep it and so on...gulp, my wallet's already looking scared...

ffs have they never heard of a Thermos Flask???
words out of my mouth

My sis and BIL bought a really nice VW camper a couple of years ago. They love it, and if they use it every other weekend, with what they save in hotel bills it'll have paid for itself in about 63 years.

The people I’m aware of who have bought vans either barely or never use them, or don’t mention it. Plus they’re always breaking down

Those with motor homes or whatever the term is seem to be trying to create a studio flat in a van - so TV, oven etc. Driveaway awnings. Seems to be all manner of things you can spend your money on, half of them seem unnecessary and makes me wonder do they actually spend much time in the great outdoors?
