Whisky recommendations?

I decided I fancied an Old Fashioned or two this evening with the rugby, and went to Sainsburys to get some bourbon.

Strangely, they had no bourbon or rye, but as I was looking around for a substitute my eye fell on this:

Penderyn.jpg

A Welsh single malt.

I figured that I was going to mix it with sugar and bitters anyway so if it was a dog it wouldn't matter much, and the fact that it was on offer (£27 down from £37) helped.

It's very good. So far I've had 4 drams and not mixed it yet. It's 46% and tastes a wee bit rough neat, but with a piece of ice it more than holds its own as a very fair drop of whisky.

Great find!

It’s relatively new - came out in the early 2000’s iirc. I once had a very drunken chat with the head distiller at a whisky festival, who was extremely forthcoming with free samples

I fucking love smokey scotch. I’ve worked my way through Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Talisker, Jura & Lagavulin.

Passable. Just about OK at £27 but no more. I'll sometimes have one when in Wales (tastes better after a day on the hill), but wouldnt be in a rush to buy a bottle again unless a nice discount.

How did it work as sours?

Some missing ones there are Port Charlotte and Caol Ila.

There are also bottlings aimed at hardcore peatheads - Peat's Beast, Smokehead and the like. They tend to be young but if you want a blast of smokey peat they'll do the trick.

Very nice as a hot whisky 😋

I've still got a bit left.

Want one together?
It's never bloody one with you though is it?

I've just poured one of these.

I cant have a whisky yet I've got a bath running for the Mrs who's on her way back from Shropshire.

If she comes home and I'm pissed as a fart talking to you on the interwubs and the lounge is flooded like last time I had a dram with the faucets open I'll be for the ducking high jump.

When shes in the soup I'll pour one.

I necked that bottle of Loch Lomand you bought me over Christmas. Drank half of it with the daughters boyfriend and then finished the other half off getting the mother of the grandchild pished.

Very nice touch.

I'll have to get one when I'm up there week after next as I intended keeping that for your next dahlia feed.

I'll be on the lookout for something different.
