Which had more influence, Sabbath or Led Zep?

Which band had more influence?

Difficult question.

Both came out of a fascination with the blues, although Sabbath moved further away than Zep did from the source material.

Zeppelin influenced The White Stripes, so am thankful for that. And also The Mission.... Sabbath also had a bit of a goth blues vibe on the first album, so there's that.

I couldn't name a single Sabbath song, but I could name loads of Led Zepplin songs and recognise them on the radio.

Don't think I know any Sabbath songs.

The grotesque strangulated high pitch vocals of Led Zeppelin appear to have been hugely influential across many metal sub genres.

Which is why I mainly hate metal.

Also “Hammer of the gods” (which I haven’t read) seems anecdotally to have influenced successive generations of dickheads when touring.

How do you measure these things?
How many times have other covered their songs
V.

Do you measure it by the number of tribute bands? Im guessing there are more zeppelin tribute bands than Sabbath.
Modern rock gods Metallica credit both bands as being an influence.

In their shortish career Zeppelin had mostly the same line up from start to finish.

For balance, let's say Sabbath were partially responsible for a new genre but zeppelin were the bigger band.

I don't like either of them, but Black Sabbath for spawning a whole genre as mentioned by others.

There's a whole other debate about whether the antics of both would past pass muster today. I suspect if both were current now they'd be unmentionable on here.

Run the Jewels called their albums Run the Jewels and then Run the Jewels 2-4 respectively, so if they did that as a deliberate Zep thing then that's one point favouring their continued influence. But they could also have done it for some other reason, so it's hard to be sure.
