Where are you on the transport network?

Manningtree. In Essex they have station buffets with beer on tap, it would seem.

Back in the day - we used to have fairly regular railway management meets there (out of working hours obviously) - they did superb simple meals of gammon and chips etc , great beer and trains home for everyone. Mechanical signalling controlled by the local box , who would give adequate warning of the trains approach so you could finish your pint nicely and stroll onto the platform in a relaxed manner. Civilized .

The big fancy airports may have oyster and champagne bars but only Exeter has ping pong. This USP probably brings in dozens of punters every year

That and the staff. Remember getting a drink before flying on a breezy day and the fella behind the bar reassuring me that it was 'rather you than me in that bleddy wind'. Yeah, cheers for that...

I like the fact that it's outdoors and (seemly?) airside. Even in calm wind days, I imagine a nearby plane taxiing by might add an extra dimension of difficulty to a game of ping pong...

Oh Lord, my inbox has been bursting with requests for Heathrow lounges, the one people are keenest on is the Virgin Clubhouse, so here we are…

I’m extremely fucking impressed by the rooftop terrace, tbf

I’ve only been in a handful of lounges over the years, but still I had never heard before of one with that feature. I know there is a very groovy airport hotel at JFK with a rooftop pool, but it’s not a lounge. Are there many others you’re aware of?

It’s not that good tbf, you’re not allowed food or drink out there. A lot of Canary Island airports have rooftop bars, some public and some in the VIP lounge. Useful for smokers…

Must say the Virgin lounge is nicer than even BA’s Concorde room, food’s excellent and the booze is flowing…plus the staff are really friendly.

The last bit is interesting to hear, considering BA seems to think so much of their first class/ gold card passengers, they see it fit to have separate lounges for them :D

As far as outdoor areas available to all departing passengers go, the humble and unassuming Almeria airport has a ridiculously brilliant outside terrace available to everyone, complete with a reasonably priced bar and of course smoking allowance. I have come across a few outdoor spaces at airports in tourist areas, but nothing gets remotely close to the one in Almeria

(That’s looking towards the building, behind me there’s an uncovered area)

BA has the first lounge at T5. Gold cards can access first lounges, they thought actual first class passengers needed something more exclusive so they came up with the Concorde Room just for them, also the Chelsea Lounge at JFK and The Bar in Singapore.

Almeria, remember being outside there too, nice!

The waiting room on Platform 2 at Pewsey Railway Station looking very Orwellian yesterday.

Fond memories of that part of the world, doing the Pewsey half marathon several times and a few other races in and around surrounding villages.

Heh I grew up there and never even knew there was a half marathon!
I knew Pewsey 30 years ago when I had in-laws there. I didn't remember it had a station. I still go back sometimes if it's a handy stop off on a journey, or to walk to the white horse. Nice place.
