What shoes with these?

Spain is one of the most unreconstructedly racist countries in Europe. Not everyone everywhere, of course, but more people than should be and in more places than should be. This is the country where three pricks saw fit to black themselves up and call themselves 'the Hamilton Family' at a grand prix. Nobody around them in the crowd appeared to take issue with that.

I can't help viewing the pointy hats and badges with symbols on them without being a bit suspicious.

And this is my town: The anonymous child is waving to their friends or family!

A likely story. It's the start of a Nazi salute!

In my experience the Spanish are far far less racist than people in the UK are. I've never seen nor experienced racism here, but I always do in the UK. Every year, every time.

Very different from my experience. Do they still call people 'moros' when they're being stupid?

No seas un moro. :(

I think you'd have a hard job putting Spain above Italy, Russia, Poland, or any of the Eastern European nations, for that crown. I agree with Dess. My experience of living there and knowing a great many Spanish people is quite the opposite. There may be unfortunate phrases that hangover from darker times (same with most countries) but actual nasty incidents of racism are pretty rare, ime.

I know Spanish and Latin American people who agree with me. Spain is a long way behind in tackling racism at an official level, and that is reflected in everyday experiences.

How long, and where, have you lived in Spain? I'm in Seville and wonder how that compares to, say, Catalunya.

Italy and Poland are really bad. They make Spain look positively welcoming.
