What little things have you done

Not climate change as such, but I picked up some dog shit which some dickhead had left on the path near my front door. It's on a primary route to two schools, so hopefully a less shit-filled path makes walking to school more enticing than getting taxi-ed.

I asked the lodger why he was doing two big loads of tumble drying on the hottest day of the year

“It’s just easier than hanging it out” apparently
when I lived in large urban areas I had problem with stuff like t-shirts and u/wear being nicked off the washing line.
actually, I often "finish" the drying in the tumbler, with the softener balls.
there's also bird 5hite to contend with ...

We have a flat roof three stories up with washing line and airers

He’s a lazy toerag

In autumn I'm going to Dublin to hang out with my parents (who are there for some work stuff) and I will take the rail + ferry route. I wish rail was more affordable/accessible for trips from UK to Europe.

A crowded lift has to be one of the better places or a library.
I wait until there's an old dear bending over to pick something up from the shelf in Lidl, not by choice but it's usually near the man cave section, then I'll let one rip and look at them in disgust.

Just thought I'd bump this, as it's been over six months, and others may have new innovations since then.

Not exactly "little", given the cost, but we've had new double glazing fitted, ready for winter. The old ones had blown in a number of places, and the full-length next to the front door was never double-glazed anyway.

I just had central heating installed which is a vile idea but I can't sell the house without it.
I doubt I will use it much as it appears to be vastly less efficient than a fan heater - I will have to do some calculations regarding the whole energy system.

I do now however have most of my windows fixed and when the rooms are boarded up they have 75mm of insulation.

My energy efficiency won't properly start until I'm out of here and relocated

It will be vastly less efficient than a fan heater, as they're effectively 100% efficient, but gas is much cheaper than electricity, so it'll probably work out cheaper per KW of heat.

the key issue with me is the boiler is at the other end of the house ...
I even hate giving the kitchen a 45 amp cooker supply as people will prepare hideously problematic food ..

I've stopped showering daily, only every two days and I've insisted my lodger only shower every four days or he'll be out. He's heeded the call, I listen to make ure. It's all about the environment, nothing to do with the power bill.

I'm watching you Edward. If you're reading this.

Changed the electric heating to a wood burner in the workshop garage - installed a pot-belly ...

We will still use the electric unless working for hours, as it takes a while for the pot-belly to warm up.

The idea is to use the branches which are too small for the living room stove. [which has such a strong draw up the chimney that anything under a couple of inches diameter vanishes in a few minutes ...]

Bloody hell! If I was your lodger I would be moving out sharpish.

My new electric shower is more efficient than firing up my un-lagged 3KW tank on a Sunday, but I don't get to easily soak my laundry in it and then flush the loo with the water ... When I first had it I was religiously using it once a week and it was handy on really hot days to have an eco shower, but recently I've been leaving it longer than a week... I get grubby but my weird body chemistry means I don't pong - and I go for weeks without even speaking to another live human ...

I haven't had hot running water all the years I've lived here and to get it with my new boiler even only a metre away involves pouring water down the sink and I don't currently have the means to capture and use it.
I don't need to do washing up...

My finished house however will probably be bought by someone who will burn fuel with gay abandon ...

Once I go to bed I get to the bathroom and back with a small rechargeable torch - and not just because there are 5 landing and stairwell lights totalling 44 watts - but they and the 15 watts of LED downlighters in the bathroom are way too bright for my nerves when I'm in sleep mode.
Until recently not a single light in my house was operated by a switch in the normal way ... and I was running everything off extension cables and a dedicated spur for immersion / cooking hob and kettle...

In my hoped-for accommodation I will aim to have separate provision for guests...
