I'll wearing a pair later on when I go to the allotment to do some digging, along with
black merino thermal top and bottoms
thick cotton shirt
thick breton wool jumper
two pairs of wool socks
walking boots
fleece gillet
fleece hat
possibly some sort of gardening implement dangling from the hammer hook if I'm feeling frisky
Once you start digging you'll have to divest most of those garments unless you like that sweat-drenched feeling of overheated nausea
Mind you, I had on a 260gm merino base layer today, under a three quarter length Gore-tex shell. It was as wet inside as it was outside. I had to turn the jacket inside out while in the caff. Meh! The merino takes care of itself as you already know.
