"Reform"?:

NHS must reform or die, Starmer to say

He's doing the media rounds this morning. My god he's fucking boring isn't he. And that weird thousand yard stare as he's droning on.

I'm all for people being helped to improve their health but this is just dystopian.

Streeting really is an apalling twat.

Yes, jab these undesirables until they get a job, alongside the obligatory photos in the Guardian and BBC of semi-anonymised torsos that that are deemed worthy of disgust by the fatphobes. And more cosying up to slim-pharma.

Unless these jabs convince the patient that working 3 jobs and still not being able to make ends meet is a great idea then I fail to see the link between the jab and employment.

But, if the jabs make fat useless bastards perform better then Streeting's boss should be first in the queue to get one.

I dunno, I work in primary care and we have a stream of people wanting these jabs as they haven't been able to lose weight through diet & exercise, and I expect the overlap with the people also unable to work due to MSK chronic pain issues largely due to being overweight and inactive is pretty large. (Not defending his position, nor berating him either though - I try to ignore reacting to newspaper/media headlines as largely a complete waste of emotion.)

For me it's a sign of what a fucked up place we're in with this stuff tbh. The issues of, connections between, and much needed discussions around obseity, losing weight, medication, diet & exercise, food advertising, health education, despair at some aspects of modern life, patriarchy, poverty, housing, traumatic events in people's lives, differences in cultural and ethnic backgrounds, chronic pain, FND conditions, depression, and anxiety is very complicated and difficult to address, and is something the NHS and wider society really struggles with.

Edited to add this, some of the long term thinking that's going on: Improving our nation’s health

Yes. Spot on LDC and nice to see you posting.

I was being flippant out of growing despair/fury at Starmer and Co. The way this jab is being positioned is toxic. In fact the entire manner in which Starmer's Labour is discussing health/poverty is dystopian.

But, yeah, the points you make are the ones we need to be thinking about.

Surprised that didn't provoke a deserved Parklife response tbh.

Even Andrea Jenkyns thinks that Wes Streeting is a fat shaming shit and shill of the pharmaceutical industry

That nice Mr Streeting has been getting out and about, Christian Concern/the Christian Legal Centre have a big piece up on their website about Streeting meeting the Darlington nurses. (Link to a archive version so as not to link directly to the scum, still working on archiving it at the moment but it should be working in a minute.)

This is Christian Concern, these are the people boasting about their access to Streeting:

They're no doubt polygamying all over the shop in Darlington. Probably pre-marital, homosexual polygamying at that. :(
