Washing a silk frock that unfort smells of bloody damp

I've walked up and down on a throw in the bath before :D

I like doing laundry :hmm: I also am going to enjoy pretending I'm back-stage at a show when I adjust all the sequins so they're lying the same way when washing this frock is finished. Ssssh.

You could either sprinkle a few teaspoons onto the garment when it's dry, leave it for an hour and then brush it off, or sprinkle it into the bath as you're leaving the item to soak. Then you just wash it as you would normally.

I think the second one would probably be more successful tbh.

Pn has replied for me while I've been out. I would have sprinkled bicarb on the inside out dress while it was dry and left it for a few hours before shaking thoroughly.

Has anything worked yet??

No, still smells after two laundry gel washes and an air-dry in direct sunlight :(

It's a wrap dress so sort of doesn't have an inside iyswim.

Would bicarb in water work? :hmm:

bicarb in water is worth a shot i reckon: i'd let it soak half an hour or so.

if you hang it in direct sunlight make sure you do it inside out to prevent fading, and ideally you need to give it a couple of days to air properly.

Stella, send it to Bob to wash, she can send it to geminisnake to dry and then she can post it back to you.

Oh and if you don't follow my fantastic advice and do it yourself, don't use Aussie shampoo, it's damned expensive
Buy some shit, cheap, but nice smelling stuff from a pound shop or something. :)

Its clean and dry now - just a bit smelly? I'd put it in a plastic bag with bicarb, give it a good shake and leave until tomorrow. Then shake it out - it there's residual bicarb on it give it a quick cool dunk and a line dry.

Should do the trick.

Is baking powder the same as bicarb?

No, but baking soda is.

Baking powder = bicarb + cream of tartar and a bit of flour. AFAIK it doesn't absorb odours or disinfect things like bicarb does.

It does manage it a bit (as I discovered when we ran out of the powder we sprinkle on the litter tray which kills the odours so I sprinkled the baking powder I had on it instead :D), but aye, it's not as good as pure bicarb
