BT , SKY ( Now tv ) , Zen, Plus net, EE , the Post office and Talk talk all use the same lines and infrastructure, if any of those services go wrong an engineer who is sub-contacted to another company goes out to your house, if the issue is outside the house Open reach sort it out. I know this as I was doing it for a living up until August.
So look for the best deal with one of them, but you wont get the speeds that virgin do for the price you would be paying and it all depends really on what you need the speed for.

Any ISP will only provide a given amount of bandwidth on their backhaul, delivered over a VLAN to a given area. If they oversubscribe, lots of customers share that bandwidth and speeds slow. Some providers deal with this by upgrading the speed on the VLAN (at a cost), cheaper ones don't.Not as far as I have heard, the lines are just leased out, the call centres are separate for each company but the infrastructure is the same.

Genuine question as you clearly know more, but I thought they had different kit in the exchanges and data centres, even if they still used the same cabling or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

It’s all shared, back to one of 20 exchanges where traffic moves to your ISPs.
But all of the local stuff is the same

Just about to call retentions and see what new contract I get offered to stay
I get 100mb, phone and TV for £39 a month from them. I still loathe them once the contract I'm off.Got almost fuck all out of them. They knocked a whole £8 off my package deal. Gave them the 30-days notice. I'll now have to look around for something else.
Currently paying £78/mth for 100Mb broadband, basic as you can get TV and phone line. New customers get better across the whole range of services for £37.50/mth. Basically told them they were taking the piss after I'd been with them over 20 years.

I did that and the helpful lass at Virgin said 'that is capitalism'Told him they were taking the piss out of loyal customers to be charging almost double what a new customer would pay for a much better package.
Well at least she was being honestI did that and the helpful lass at Virgin said 'that is capitalism'
Cunts
when i cancelled Virgin I told them i was leaving the country. They asked me for my flight details! they are insane, never using them againThe cancellation did not go all smoothly. When I called them to cancel, the guy he tried offering me alternatives which I rejected. I could tell from his voice he was annoyed. Anyway, he didn't action my request as I was supposed to be transferred to another team. I just ended the call. This was in Oct. In November I called to ask when do I cancel my DD. The guy on the phone said do it now. So I cancelled. Then I got a you cancelled the DD email notice in late november. Called them only to be told I never cancelled. as I never went through to the right department.
Anyway, after two calls, one of the agents spoke to a manager who said the first guy I spoke to should have contacted the correct department after i called even though the call ended before the transfer was made as I had given my notice. It seems everything is now fine as they collected the hub. Wont be going back to virgin media again as I'm happy with community fibre.
