'Vintage mundane'

Anyway away from the contentious subject of pans, did anyone or perhaps their older relatives have a crying boy photo

When the thread started (thanks Cloo ) I thought of Babe Rainbow but then I realised, she ain’t mundane.

Same with that green woman.
The elephants reflected the drinking pool is more mundane I guess. Certainly more commonly seen.

Oh god the green woman was everywhere for a while

Dont know why I bought them tbh as I’m a shit and fairly unenthusiastic cook :D

Exactly because they’re seen as inspirational and aspirational. You hoped that having a set would somehow magically make you an enthusiastic cook

No offence if it was your family's favourite thing, but why on Earth would anyone want a picture of an unhappy child?

It got into the tabloids apparently firefighters were reporting a photo of a crying boy as being the only item unscathed in housefires and lo a new superstition was born  :D

Christ I might have known and should have guessed that it’s a Salvador Dali picture.

Every dealer I've ever known has had this on their wall.

I really suggest Lidl and Aldi to fulfil those sorts of urges, it's decent quality stuff and won't make your bank manager cry.
I reckon my Lidl "fake le creuset" enamelled cast iron casserole/crockpot will outlive me and it only cost me £25.

Not that I recall but it’s the sort of thing my Nanna may have had

This is why I’ve heard of them (apparently the picture frames were fire-resistant)

My brother nicked one of the ones my mum got as a wedding present, after I'd already (jokingly, but also not) claimed it for myself when she dies. And he's now a professional chef, so...

(Agree with Epona , the Lidl/Aldi fake le creuset stuff is great. Absolute bastard to get home along with the rest of your shopping when you weren't expecting to buy one but don't want to risk a separate trip later when they might've all sold out though)

Tbh, I don’t find the art prints I posted mundane at all. Babe Rainbow is not mundane. Nor is the Dali print, even though it was ubiquitous, same for the swans thing.

Maybe the couple dancing on the beach with the umbrella being held over them by the butler, and the maid holding the shoes? That‘s more mundane. Also somewhat hateful.
The poker playing dogs too.

Some people still really like the poker playing dogs and the rich couple being rude to the servants though.

The "Dogs Playing Snooker" paintings and packets of peanuts on a cardboard.... Um.... board that had a topless woman on it.

Mundane means dull, uninteresting, lacking interest.
By that definition View-master is the very opposite of mundane.

Crueset too: Pricey, bright orange/turquoise, outside the budget of the proles unless it’s given as a wedding gift? The opposite of dull, uninteresting. In fact they place and sell themselves as the opposite of mundane.
Both mundane from my point of view.
People have different experiences and are sharing them

As is everyone’s

Not at all.
Not everyone thinks they’re right all the time. A great many people don’t have that certainty. Plenty of people prevaricate, or feel ambivalent, or worry that they’re not on firm ground, or hesitate to share their opinions because they might not chime with that of others, or find that they're swayed by other people, or they can see both sides of an argument and so find their own position wavering, or don’t feel confident enough to hold a strong position.

Your belief that everyone is as certain of their own position as you are of yours, that’s you your opinion. It’s not absolute fact.

i'm not sure if i do

:p

here’s where I’m going to grumble about modern cutlery - too light, too small and not enough heft to them, especially forks

I have most of a really good set of Villeroy & Bosch cutlery that I bought back when Groupon did good deals. It's SO much nicer than flat, light stuff. First time I'd ever had anything other than cheap Ikea cutlery (which I don't think will ever be considered good - the handles broke off too easily) or random charity shop bits. Every year I'm asked what I want for Christmas and ask for V&B cutlery, and it never appears. Fuck you. Santa!

Whenever I go to a restaurant I balance a spoon by its handle on my finger to see how good the balance is. Heavy but balanced cutlery is much nicer to eat with, and also easier to use.

But Le Creuset has always been a premium brand. Premium ≠ mundane.

I know that. You’re very condescending and dismissive of other people’s experiences, you know.
I just express myself differently ffs
