'Vintage mundane'

Ahh this reminds me of mum and toddler group I used to go to. There was this colour and a pale yellow as well.
Yep I remember seeing them in blue, green, and yellow - might there have been a pink one too?
They were very popular for a while, seemed to be everywhere.

Whereas I hate big chunky cutlery. In fact, we have two sets of cutlery mingled together, one 'fat' and one 'thin' - Mr K likes the former, I like the latter, and we both grumble if given the wrong sort :D

Yeah with my dodgy hands and poor grip, cutlery has to be light. We have a spoon that is too heavy for me, so that is OH's spoon.
I also use only small kitchen knives or kitchen scissors for chopping ingredients, I'd be in danger of dropping anything heavy on my foot or having some other sort of accident when I lost my grip on it.

We had this set for years when I was growing up. My mum has one plate left and my brother and I used to fight over who got it. View attachment 407002
I had one of those plates. We found it in the kitchen cupboard when we moved into a flat. Kept a plant pot on it while we lived there until it had an ingrained circle of dirt on that wouldn't clean off, so we left it behind when we moved out.

(cba making it not-sideways)
I had a knife just like the top one. Again, I think we found it when we moved into a flat. Had it for a while, but somehow the blade ended up all burnt :hmm::D

Although I don't have any for me it's the green Beryl west crockery. Always reminds me of a neighbour/bonus Gran from when I was little.

That set says 'church hall' to me.

I'll always have a soft spot for the Meakin Poppy set that my mum had in the 70s:

here’s where I’m going to grumble about modern cutlery - too light, too small and not enough heft to them, especially forks
Not all! My mum has a ridiculous set of cutlery that's far too heavy and also really badly balanced, so it's impossible to clear the table without butter knives flying off in all directions. She got rid of loads of the previous set when she bought it, so now they're back on the old old set of stuff like those cream handled knives and her family's good silverware from a hundred years ago and bits of her old set that my brother and I had nicked over the preceding years

The ones I’m thinking of are butter knives

Edit: and the other one is George Hides & Son

They’re both potentially >100 years old. Antique mundane 👍🏼

I guess it’s down to what you are used to and whether you have dainty hands or shovels.
It’s SOOO jarring when you pick up a fork or knife that’s not quite the right size or shape or weight. I have one fork in the drawer that fills me with rage if pick it up by mistake and am compelled to fling it across the room in disgust and declare that my tea is now RUINED

I might have to have a rummage round at the back of some of my cupboards to see what I've got lurking about.

They’re great! I have about ten of them, they get used for butter spreading and they make great stirrers/spatulas for stirring small pans, for lifting stuck things off my baking tray, wouldn’t be without them.

I shall now make sure I buy one or two if I see them in second hand shops etc

Those string and nail pictures from the 60s/70s - we had some in the family home when I was little, as I recall. Bought a couple recently:

Brilliant thread btw

I loathed these. Possibly still would if I were to see them IRL

Something about them gave me some kind of unpleasant visceral sensation or reaction that got in the way of everything else happening in the same room.
A repetitive going round and round in circles with no purpose and no fun kind of feeling
