I was listening to an American podcast earlier and to emphasise how big a deal it is they said "it's bigger than the Superbowl". Well it does involve entire continents worth of teams, rather than a few cities...
To be fair, they also said it was bigger than the Olympics, though I'm honestly not sure about that.

To be fair a decade ago this would have been a landslide win to Portugal. They are holding their own against a higher ranked side here.

Me too.
I understand that the US is a football underdog, but i also love seeing the US get their arses handed to them on the international stage. Americans win so often, and come to expect it, that it's sort of refreshing to see American supporters go home disappointed, no matter what the sport. I especially hate the fucking "U.S.A." chant of American sporting fans.

Lots of players from the USA are actually pretty likeable to be honest. I don't have a problem with supporting them in matches like this.
