Transform: The latest "new party of the Left.

Yep.

I think NIP needs/ed more time.

...but I fear and understand the long haul isn't really a goer for many these days.
The hardwork of doing politics dilutes most of the original enthusiasm. You can get people out for meetings or rallies. You'll get lesser out for leaflet distribution/door knocking. If you take part in an election and lose, you'll lose a few more people.

NIP, to give a recent example, found Twitter easier than the hard work of campaigning.

They've opened up for general membership, don't go crushing each other in the stampede now...

They seem decent enough for what they are and it's a weird time in general, Labour councillors going independent, some people jumping on the Greens as an alternative etc. So who knows? If they can grab some of those councillors that'd be something. Usual cynicism though, another Left 'unity' sub-group there until someone gets over excited with Photoshop and does branding for the next one. And if those defecting councillors have the nous to start their own thing that'd quickly circumvent this, plenty of scope for going against Labour on that local level, in London at least, people hate most councils.

"Transform’s founding conference was one of the most bizarre political events I have ever attended......"

On the one hand, they're probably right in most of what they're saying there. On the other hand though Transform would still need to go some to be as dead in the water as anyone putting out the 'Weekly Worker' complete with red hammer and sickle logo in 2023...

I'm fairly sure CPGB joined left unity? So presumably they went to this as prospective comrades!

"This is the kind of Lassallean nonsense that Marx and Engels argued against at length, over 150 years ago."

Took the words right out of my mouth tbh

Lassallean nonsense is a gem of a phrase tbh probably the best I've heard this year . It's dying to find an opportunity to be used on here in reply to one of the one true path Labour contributions .
Needs to be used sparingly though and we might need to bide our time. It will come though.
Our time will come ✊. Or something.

aah, 'Carla' - god knows why she is continuing to use that soubriquet considering it was one to stop her being barred from joining Labour - even tho she was already barred from joining Labour and they have no interest in doing so any more.

But still, cadre names are sexy, huh?

As an aside for lefty trainspotters, Socialist Appeal appear to be “transforming” to full on Tankie-Campists, (there’s money in it doncha think? 😉) plastering the hammer and sickle everywhere, renaming their paper “The Communist” and rebranding as the “Revolutionary Communist Party” 👀 in 2024. (According to Workers Liberty, who give Weekly Worker a run for their money in the snidey sectarian jibe department)

If you can't recognise patiently explaining, comrade, I feel sorry for you.

I remember Lustbather doing a post somewhere which decontructed the phrase "patiently explain" in the manner of Alvin Lucier's I am Sitting in a Room (1969)

to pateintly explain
explaining petiently
an hour of patient explanations
to patiently explain patient explanation
explaining patiently axplanation of patience
gradual rise of formless abstract noise as deconstruction continues

Brilliant . Wonder what he is up to these days ?

Come on, its got to inspire you to a special Xmas 2023 edition of Cockers and friends!

Real name TB, by any chance? (Not Tony Blair, btw. Or tuberculosis.)

Full thread on them this way -> Who the f*ck are Socialist Appeal?

Featuring their own unique take on that Stalinist/Maoist tradition of putting faces in a row:

For Lambeth people who want to know more there is an informal Lambeth Transform get together at the Crown & Anchor, 246 Brixton Road, SW9 6AQ, from 1.30pm this Saturday (6th January). Any Lambeth based Urbanista who wants to know more is invited. Even if it's just to ask a few awkward questions over a pint or two. For non drinkers there will also be a similar get together at Brixton Blend, 8 Tunstall Rd, London SW9 8BN, on
Sunday 14th from 1.30pm, there will also probably be a Zoom based equivalent on the 11th but that's yet to be confirmed. The aim is to get enough people signed up to be able to start looking at what the party should be doing in Lambeth from next month.
