is there a Toby Jug Fact in that article?

:p

and :( at state of tolworth station - the chessington south branch (which was not intended to be a branch - more here) was about the last bit of SR built before the 1939 war. i hope the stations get listed before they disintegrate or get replaced with something bloody awful if crossrail 2 ever happens...

I had never heard of Tolworth until I started working the SW desk at the LAS, suddenly I had to find out where it was and where it's ambulance station was.

We raved tolworth in 2000! outrage over rave

Jim Taylor of Chessington Residents' Association said: "This was absolute anarchy."
"Police stood by as 2,000 ravers, many high on drugs ... "

Rolled up on Friday evening and Old Bill said no, we countered with an offer to set up in Kingston town centre, they let the party go ahead...

Evening Standard linked our McD's sign to MayDay riots, even though they were unaware that one of those jailed for the riots was loosely associated with our crew (he was really tall so useful for hanging backdrops).

existentialist might like this thread.

I have another Tolwoth fact which I am keeping for now...

Home of Radio Jackie, mind.

Their transmitter mast is on top of Tolworth Tower, hardly surprising really in view of its height, and being opposite their studios.

I remember visiting them in their pirate days, they were using Beddington Lane sewage treatment works as the transmitter site, not the most pleasant site I've been on!

The only pirate to actually turn the tables on the GPO, when they prosecuted one of their engineers for an assault during a raid, they called loads of witnesses that they claimed were hidden in hedges and saw everything. ;)

Also the only pirate to have a recoding of them play in the House of Commons, as an example of what legal local commercial radio could sound like, before the first such stations were licensed.

These old photos show their 'off road transport' used to get to isolated sites, and the transmitter set-up, car batteries, and cassette recorder to play the shows, etc.

Isn’t chessington south one of the stations at which OzT works?

My original home town. Went to primary school at Grand Avenue (which always fancies itself as being in Berrylands, but isn't).

Some of the tracklaying beyond Chessington South was, so local rumour has it, done by way of practice for Royal Engineers learning how to lay military railways.
