Thread about spiders (not for the arachnophobic!)

Just seen the first of the seasons big spiders scuttle out from under the TV stand and make it's way across the room. Must be the change in the weather that is bringing them out this early.

I'd rather try and get it out than sleep in there with it but I'm not good with these. It's a giant house spider, we get one or two a year and they're completely harmless but I'm genuinely scared.

That's a beauty, but yeah I can imagine it being difficult to sleep knowing it is there if you have a phobia (I have my own phobias so I get it, just not about spiders!)

Is there anyone else who can catch it and safely pop it outside for you?

I went in with gloves and a big plastic box but it hid in one of the pockets of scarves in that door hang thingy. So took the whole thing down to the garden. I was looking at it except for a few seconds while going out the back door at which point it managed to disappear. Hopefully it's in the garden for now but given the name of the species I reckon it'll want in again. It had originally plotted up in my wife's (brand new, rather plush) dressing gown so I've tried to make our room a little less inviting. With any luck it'll try the kids room next time.

they are even more likely to head inside over the coming weeks as it is the mating season. It means many spiders will emerge to seek partners to lay eggs ahead of the winter with the baby spiders arriving the following spring.

I'd have left the spider in the wifes dressing gown but then I'm a horrible bastard. :D:D
I once put a big rubber spider at the foot end of my parent's bed on the side my mam slept on - knowing full well she was terrified of them. I lay in bed waiting for them to go to bed, and predictably enough she screamed and jumped out of bed when her feet touched the spider. Then lots of swearing at my dad who was pissing himself laughing. :D

Oh yeah, and I also used to throw spiders I'd caught in the garden at my mam and sister - it was very, very funny.

I was probably an evil child but I have no shame.
