Thread about spiders (not for the arachnophobic!)

This is a great picture - a fishing spider weaving an egg sac.

Orange Baboon Tarantula aka Orange Bitey Thing because of its temperament. There are 4 different colour forms, this is the Kilimanjaro variety

This is my pet spider. The kids have named her Jeff, which I hate (I'm open to suggestions but hate all that super British haha she's called Dave humour). She lives in the kitchen window, which means she sometimes gets a bit of a spa treatment from the kettle (I usually try to remember to turn it away from her). Anyway the thing about her that is a bit interesting is that last winter there was another spider in this exact spot. We spent all winter together and then in spring she died, and I was sadder than I expected to be. But the whole theory that spiders choose their spots very wisely, and that if you get rid of one from a spot, you'll probably get another, is borne out by this. We have tons of flies right now because we have pet snails and their food attracts them. So I get to feed her all the time, which is amazing to watch. I am very scared of spiders, and if she touched me I would probably die, but I love her very much from afar.

This is Dr Lee, she's a megaphobema robustum aka Colombian Giant. They have a defense method unique to themselves in that they spin around and use spikes on their back legs to stab. I got her 6 months ago as a present to myself for finishing level 2 of university. She promptly hid and i didn't see her until literally just now. I am buzzing happy. She's still only a small juvenile and will at least double in size.
