The "who are you voting for on May 3" thread

Who are you going to be voting for on May 3?

  • Total voters
    98
  • Poll closed .
I have three votes for the city council, so one will be going to the only Green candidate standing in my ward (and I'm in Lancaster too before I get a reply about the pointlessness of voting Green), one to one of the Labour candidates (under normal circumstances I would rather stick forks in my eyes than vote Labour but I know the candidate and think she'll make a really good local councillor) and the last one to... God, I have no idea. Makes no bloody difference anyway as the Lib Dems will get in again

Which ward are you in? I know that I have two Greens standing in my ward (Ellel), but if I have three votes I am not sure who to use my third vote for, I know how crap the Lib Dems have been in Lancaster, and there is a Labour candidate who was the women's officer for the Student Union, who is a decent type, so I may have to swallow my pride (normally me and the Labour party don't mix, cause of all the obvious reasons such as tuition fees, the war, benefit cuts) and vote for her in spite of the party she is standing for.

I shall be voting Green. They are good locally and will hopefully pick up a couple of seats in the council. My ward is true blue tory but I told them to fuck off the other night so I can't vote for them.

As for labour, well, I consider myself to be a socialist. Labour aren't a socialist party.

Not even sure who I have to choose from in the nationals tbh.

Well I got a massive pile of election shite this morning. The tories were the ONLY party to use recycleable paper  The rest used glossy shite
Still dunno who though :(

Can`t vote this election...

...but it`d be Green.

I`ve abandoned my asbstensionism of the last decade or so.

Hi-ASL, you really need to chill out. Labour will win or the Conservatives will win and the square root of fuck all will change.

Tory

slightly more sensible spending, less chance of council tax going awol....oh yeah, and better planning decisions.

Everyone knows Tory councils are run better.

Tory councils may be "run better" cause they like to cut services and close down facilities such as care homes (which the Tories did when they had a breif stint at the helm of Plymouth Council).

However, Labour and the Lib Dems would never do that, would they?

The costs of a tory led council with lib-dem and Green party support in the city I live so far are:

Cutting home care visits for older people.

Closing days centres on weekends

Meanwhile, £500,000 squandered on a relaunch of the Council newspaper. £250,000 on more press and publicity officers. £800,000 on re-branding the city, only to find that the new brand was the same as Hong Kong had been using for the last two years. £200,000 on tarting up a lounge for councillors. Paying huge bonuses to a handful of top bosses. Lavishing cash on 'consultants' and 'advisors'. Failing to collect £2.8 million in license fees from private landlords. A rate rebate for football millionares of £130,000.

Looks badly run from where I'm stood.

The local Respect leaflet was on folded card.
(I believe it may have contributed to getting me a patronising note from the recyclers about mixing card with the waste paper. :p )

Must be Leeds - are the Greens going to get punished for it?

also why no bnp option ?

in case all those delicate flowers out there faint at the mere notion of such a choice :D

I noticed that absence....not that I'd consider clicking on the poll option if it were, for obvious reasons.

It would be worth having that option !

you could select it and get a few toys out the pram !! :D

i will be voting the big c , because i hate labour .but if there was another choice for me i would vote fot them because cameron is a cunt .

Why don't you like Cameron? Is it cos he's a toff?

no because he is a fool . a sniveling one at that . and i dont like his politics . all this lovey dovey shit gets on my tits .

Quite understandable.

He's made the blundering error of believing that, just because IDS and Hague were right wing on a number of issues, like Europe and Crime and Punishment amongst others, and because they bombed, then those issues are not high up on the doemstic agenda.

When they blatantly are. It's just the leaders in question were shite, and the Party had a long way to go through their period of pennance before being considered.

Get back to the right, and sort this country out, is what I say.

the thing that fucks me of i these cunts can say what they like to get in but dont have to go through with it . a election manifesto should be a legal document , if it is not being implemented within 2 years a new election should be called straight away .

mind you i think the whole political system in this country is shit , i dont no what would be better but i hate the current one .

The political compass told me to vote green - so there nea nea :p

(bottom left - appropriately South West)

:D

well, being in brighton these day's i'd assumed green, but the sguc (does that still exist?) are complicating things with 2 socialist alternative (millies arent they?) and an alliance for green socialism candidates. pretty safe labour ward

Isn't Brighton where some of the Greens voted to priviatise council housing?

Anyway, in that situation I would be inclined to judge each candidate on its own merits.

dunno bout, that, i've only been here since september (student scumbag alert):p

probly the two millies and the first choice green, but there's been practically fuck all attempt to canvass votes on campus, i would've thought the greens, libdems and sp could pick up a decent vote if they sent some people round the halls or the big open areas where people mill around, there must be at least 3000 living here

I always think it's good to have some Green representation on the Council, but then an Urbanite is standing for Labour in my patch but then I think the party needs to get the message that it bears some level of responsibility for Blair and cronies but then . . .

. . . oh, I don't fucking know . . .

Gonna vote Plaid
The Socialist Alternative have got a good candidate but hes got no chance-
