Network Rail urges people in East Yorkshire to use level crossings safely after driver hits barrier in shocking incident: Network Rail urges people in East Yorkshire to use level crossings safely after driver hits barrier in shocking incident

Another twat behind the wheel damaging our glorious level crossings

Devastating news

The Secretary of State for Transport has now granted Network Rail the powers to close or modify the following nine level crossings:

  • Island, IP9 2LP
  • Leggetts, IP14 4EY
  • Gooderhams, IP14 4HH
  • Paynes, IP23 8JE
  • Gislingham, IP14 4HX
  • Cowpasture Lane, IP23 8EF
  • Abbotts, IP23 8DN
  • Lords, IP30 9UD
  • Hawk End Lane, IP30 9ED

Gooderhams, Leggetts, and Abbotts crossings will be closed to the public once the Transport and Works Act Order comes into force. This date will be confirmed in the Order published by the Secretary of State. Users will be directed to use existing alternative routes. Signage will be provided where necessary.

Cowpasture Lane is being legally downgraded from a Byway Open to All Traffic to a Public Bridleway. Mounting blocks will be provided to assist equestrians.

Two level-crossing idiots.

Bloke in a van tries to jump in front of a steam train on the HSB. Train driver not very pleased.

Car thief in Cambridgeshire crashes through level crossing. Old Bill sensibly decide not to follow.

On the Ely to Norwich line there are several little pedestrian-only level crossings serving obscure paths and farm tracks. These usually don't have any kind of warning system just signs telling you to watch out for trains.

Crunch!

UPDATE: Repair works underway following Cambridgeshire level crossing incident: Kisbeys LX update 2

Do they ever sue to recoup repair costs when a driver is to blame for one of these accidents? Obviously some won't be, such as mechanical breakdown, but some will be caused by idiots taking stupid chances.

They might make insurance claims against the driver I suppose.

Extra special stupidity on display here

Network Rail has today (29 November) released CCTV footage which shows serious misuse of a level crossing in Attenborough in Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire.

The footage1 – which includes two teenage girls doing hand stands on the track - was captured at Nature Reserve level crossing in Attenborough, where trains travel on the busy line to and from Nottingham at up to 80mph.

It also shows incredibly dangerous behaviour, including people taking selfies on the railway, laying down on the track for irresponsible photo opportunities or stopping to sit on the crossing - which could have all resulted in fatal or life changing consequences.

See video here:

Look at these fucking idiots. There's one fuckwit looking at this phone on the crossing while his two daughters wander over the tracks.
