This is more about the closure of the signal boxes on the Ely to Norwich line, but it does feature a few manual crossings and is quite an interesting watch
That is fantastic. Snow + semaphores + signalboxes!

BristolEcho I see what you did there, liking one of my posts from 2006. Those halcyon days...
No need to apologise, was just surprised at someone liking one of my oldest posts. No likes at the time I wrote it, they didn't come in until many years later.Yeah sorry! Never to sure on the etiquette. Did like the post though reminds me of similar things growing up.
The Secretary of State for Transport has now granted Network Rail the powers to close or modify the following nine level crossings:
- Island, IP9 2LP
- Leggetts, IP14 4EY
- Gooderhams, IP14 4HH
- Paynes, IP23 8JE
- Gislingham, IP14 4HX
- Cowpasture Lane, IP23 8EF
- Abbotts, IP23 8DN
- Lords, IP30 9UD
- Hawk End Lane, IP30 9ED
Gooderhams, Leggetts, and Abbotts crossings will be closed to the public once the Transport and Works Act Order comes into force. This date will be confirmed in the Order published by the Secretary of State. Users will be directed to use existing alternative routes. Signage will be provided where necessary.
Cowpasture Lane is being legally downgraded from a Byway Open to All Traffic to a Public Bridleway. Mounting blocks will be provided to assist equestrians.
Do they ever sue to recoup repair costs when a driver is to blame for one of these accidents? Obviously some won't be, such as mechanical breakdown, but some will be caused by idiots taking stupid chances.Crunch!
UPDATE: Repair works underway following Cambridgeshire level crossing incident
Repair works are underway on the line between Ely and Peterborough following a collision between a freight train and a tractor yesterday morning (19 August).www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk
There's way more than two. SW lines are lousy with them for a start. One of London's two remaining level crossings
