The perfect wine glass?

So after protecting it like a child, this evening the other Mr Goit broke the last glass standing. I;ve been quite staunch about drinking out of "my glass" over the years and wne will no doubt, never taste the same again. So this leaves me with a big hole in my life waiting to be filled by the perfect wine glass.

My brief is simple. Thin and massive is all I ask for.

Any recommendations?

Something like this?

They are beautifully thin; tis really odd because I used to not mind drinking wine out of anything until I got a set, and now everything else just feels horrible.

But I hate washing them. convinced I'm going to break them every time.

I like a short but chunky wine glass myself. Something along these lines:

With a smaller glass you're almost constantly topping it up, which is a satisfying feeling :)

And that's it. My partner swears by the massive chunky goblets he bought. After he smashed mine tonight I drank out of one and a promise the wine tasted different. For me the glass needs to be as fragile and thin as possible. I don't know. I love me red wine and I'm so picky about it. I have taken my glass to parties so I can drink out of "thin" glass. It was just an Ikea cheapo but it was so wafer thin. They don't make them anymore. I've checked.

I think I'll go for the Riedel's at the moment. I've been threatening to spend so proper cash on some glasses for years now in a vein attempt to ward of the evil glass smashing spirits.

My partner went on and on about how awesome proper wine glasses were and I dismissed him as a snob for ages until I tried them myself.
Yeah, it's like that. People give me shit all the time but once you've done thin, you never, erm, umm,

My hands don't work, so I've lost all my nice glasses over the last few years :(
Amazing how good a nice claret can taste from a pint glass :)

Different wines benefit from different glasses. Wines that are served cool or chilled benefit from thicker glass because it insulates; wines which you warm with the sun or your hand benefit from a thinner glass to promote warming and a larger glass to trap the bouquet.

last time we did this thread i did a taste test of niiiice wine out of the stupid tippy-breaky-oversized glasses and my standard tumblers (assorted shapes/thicknesses but all having a capacity of one small glass - 5 to the bottle)

don't care which is supposed to be better: *i* prefer it out of *my* glasses :p

i have two unused sat in a box somewhere that you'd bloody love minimmgmtmti. nip over and you can have em ;)

I prefer drinking wine out of tumbler type glasses, mrs21 prefers proper wine glasses

an empty mustard jar was my favourite wine glass for years :) it had little spirals at the base that fit my fingers just-so  i mostly drink red so the extra warmth of holding it my hand helps too.

for spirits i prefer wider/lower glasses, but larger and thinner.

all my glasswear is either clear or green, but none of it matches, each size/shape is for a specific purpose :)

Riedel make ridiculously good glasses. Although you will probably find yourself making sure you have the correct glass for each wine. Expensive way of doing things.

I am very particular about my wine glasses, but luckily I like small tough cheap pub type ones.

With martinis I have waaaaay to many conditions as to how the glass should be. Took me an age to get the right one.

Fragile and thin as possible - Ikea is your friend and only something like £1.99 for 6

granted the first one broke putting it in hot water to wash it and the other 5 didn't last much longer but they do tick the thin and fragile box nicely

Yus - sod that malarkey; I've got some for red and some for white - anything more than that and I'd have to sell the dog.

if i was replacing wholesale i'd go for something along these lines. there's a reason the french drink out of them :p

I like wine glasses that a) aren't so stupidly thin that it's impossible to look at them without breaking them and b) don't cost 60 quid for a pair, because that's a fucking ridiculous amount of money to spend on wine glasses.

i am currently drinking 2 week-old £3 aussie red out of a moroccan tea glass, so bollocks to everything i say tbf

if i'm paying hard earned cash to eat out i like a refined glass, but that's what their overheads are for.

at home i like stability/longevity and enjoyment of drinking: my taste test says i get both with my preferred option
