"Once it was young supporters who used to fight with their fists, but everything has changed in the last few years," said Jerzy Wozniakiewicz, a councillor and youth worker in the high-rise estates between historic Krakow and its ugly neighbour, Nowa Huta. "These are organised groups, often built around fighting schools, which are recruiting points for the 'foot-soldiers'.
"They are involved in drugs, anabolic steroids and car theft and the young men around here with no real ambitions are easy to hire as soldiers. They enter into a hierarchy, which gives them confidence and gradually they are assigned more important tasks."
With Euro 2012 approaching, police have been scrambling to keep up with this mutation of local rivalry into gang warfare. Last year Warsaw police set up the first unit focused on this growing nexus. But the tightly knit gangs have been hard to infiltrate, and a senior policeman said co-operation from the football clubs had been patchy.

Gay England football fans travelling to Ukraine for Euro 2012 have been warned to keep a low profile for their own safety.
The advice came after Kiev's first ever gay pride parade was cancelled on Sunday amid fears of violence from far-right thugs.
Television pictures showed Svyatoslav Sheremet, head of the Gay Forum of Ukraine, being kicked and jumped on by a group of men after the event was stopped.
Amnesty International said police in the capital advised organisers to abandon the march just 30 minutes before it was due to start after 500 ultra-right football hooligans had gathered.

Hooliganism on roids:eek:

These eastern european hooligans are much better at being hooligans than the pavement dancers you get here. Meet in a secluded spot away from police and fight it out proper. They genuinely all do like they are roided up too.

So it would seem. I can see a few problems ahead for the lager louts if they think they can fight some of these firms tanked up on artois :) It's gonna be like ageing rocky fighting the russian :)

My club team played a polish side in eufa cup qualifiers last year. The town was invaded by thousands of old school muscle-bound polish hooligans, and by all account the local 'casual' firm's attempt to confront them end up with them getting chased down the street, then resorting to chucking bottles from behind police lines

Been to games in Both Poland & Unkraine - club and national sides. Not been involved in bother myself, indeed had a great time, but when Legia & Wisla decide to meet up for a punch up at a Poland game, its pretty serious - armoured cars an stuff involved

I dont think even the small number of England gans who are attending will be tempted to kick off and start chucking plastic chairs around the place again - the cops in UKR & Poland are proper naughty , never mind the supporters.

English Hoologans = mouthy lardy bastards who love their country

Ukranian Hooligans = mouthy not lardy bastards who have done 2 years conscription and would probabaly kill for their country

Sol Campbell warns fans to stay away from Euro 2012
Panorama spent a month filming at matches in both the joint host nations and witnessed Nazi salutes from the terraces, black players being taunted with monkey chants, rampant anti-Semitism and a vicious assault on a group of Asian students.
'Zero tolerance'
After watching the footage, Mr Campbell said he believes Uefa should not have chosen the countries as hosts of such a prestigious event in the first place.
"I think that they were wrong, because what they should say is that 'if you want this tournament, you sort your problems out. Until we see a massive improvement... you do not deserve these prestigious tournaments in your country.'"

With just days to go before the kick-off of the Euro 2012 championships, Panorama reveals shocking new evidence of racist violence and anti-semitism at the heart of Polish and Ukrainian football and asks whether tournament organiser UEFA should have chosen both nations to host the prestigious... > Show more

:D

Having watched Panorama I have some weird fantasy of giving all black & Asian Paras, Marines, special forces etc. and any of their colleagues who fancy it a ticket to Ukraine and see how them ones who went to their pathetic training camp with wooden knives get on.

Rusky scum. Hope the Polish police catch up with them soon.

I hope so, cowardly bastards. I despise this type of hooligan who just use random violence on outnumbered people who don't even want to fight them. Notable that there were no police around at all.

why notable? It looks like it is taking place in the stadium concourse. In England, I wouldn't expect to often see police in the concourse and I don't think in grounds outside the uk that I have seen that many police in the concourses either.

There's police in every part of the ground in most prem games I go to. If that had happened at Anfield, OT or even Wembley it would have been swarming with fuzz in no time.

Wankers for having a go at the stewards. That will have ramifications on the hool front I'm sure.

I would have expected a police presence around most of the ground, anywhere there would be masses of fans.

This article suggests that games in England are graded into 3 categories. Low risk with about 12 police and possibly none inside the stadium. Medium with up to 50, presumably not all inside the stadium.

Presumably all the games you go to are high risk games.

Whilst that system doesnt apply for this competition, i imagine that a similar categorisation applies. I expect that yesterday's games were all considered low to medium risk and there probably wasn't a huge police presence inside the ground.

I've never been to a prem game where there were no plod inside the stadium. On your av home game there must be about 30 plod in the kop alone at anfield.

I'd be flabbergasted if there were no plod inside the stadium for that game. There are hundreds of police at prem games and Internationals and plenty of them are in the stadium. At the all Merseyside Semi at wembley there must have been hundreds of plod involved. Can't see why an international of this magnitude would be treated any differently.

I think a low risk game would be something like Chester v's Northwich and even at a game of such little interest to most of the population there is plod in the ground.

The one doing the kick boxing move is taking a big risk. All his weight on the standing leg, the other leg high in the air for an eternity. Do that against someone who knows what they're doing and they will block the kick and break the other leg with a side kick to the knee

Yep, never been to a West Ham game home or away when there weren't police inside the stadium and loads around outside all the way down from the tube station. Or if we're playing millwall more police than fans :D
