The Ochlympics: Glasgow 2014

It was good, well Rod Stewart was a bit pants, and when the baton didn't come apart it was a moment, but the rest was great - esp Billy Connolly and I liked the raising money for children, wonder how much that came to?

One of my work colleagues was supposed to be doing trackside mechanical support for the Trinidad and Tobago cycling team but they didn't manage to get him security clearance (apparently they'd been being very lackadaisical about it) and he ended up being very lucky and getting a spectator ticket donated for tonight instead... think they might be regretting it now :(

Blimey

I saw the end of the men's triathlon. God, but they're tough buggers to be able to do all that anyway, but it looked roasting in Glasgow today.
Nice work Mrs Brownlee.

Dissapointing. I think the emphasis on doing it quickly might have been a mistake. I think a lot of people would have given more had it been easy to, rather than the nominal £5.00 amount.
You could text multiple times.

I found it slightly odd they seemed to be keeping it a secret throughout the night. "Something" was going to happen, but they didn't tell you what. Ok, most people have their phones on them all the time so texting a number was unlikely to be too difficult, but still thought it was an odd strategy. Plus, as you say, the "do it now!" thing may have put people off, though can see what they were going for.

Still, £2.5m ain't bad compared to the fundraising contributions of other opening ceremonies ;)

I watched the Womens Triathalon this morning and the start of the Mens this afternoon before I went swimming. It is proper endurance to be able to do that.

I have enjoyed the sport today - the women and men's triathlon, the cycling and now the swimming. It's been good watching!

I have a sporting interest in swimming now because I go swimming! It is really interesting watching their technique. Before, it all looked the same. But now I notice slight differences in technique. I go swimming at the same time as the local swim team so I am always watching them to try and improve my own technique.

I was discussing technique with Mr. QofG's. He quite fancies having a go at a triathlon, he's an experienced cyclist and runner with a good level of fitness but he is a terrible swimmer. Two lengths and he gets cramp in his legs/feet.

I am sure it must be technique but don't know enough about it (he swims 'crawl'). I suggested asking one f the instructors at the leisure centre to see if they could give him tips

Also nice work Mrs Brownlee, congratulations on giving birth to 2 of the most nails people around.

Mixed triathlon relay on Saturday (or is it Sunday?). Granted recovery time is limited and it's asking a lot for them to motivate themselves again, but the England squad is potentially 2 gold, a silver and a bronze medal from the individual events. Tasty.

I noticed that Alastair Brownlee was smiling almost all the way through.

I am watching the interview with them now, they seem like good lads.
