Sadly not. It's the one near London!august should work very nicely.
that reading there isn't Reading PA, is it?
They're all cancelled? So sorry ed, I've been following your progress on Facebook and here, and the tour looked fab
Yep. It was originally two tour five months apart. Then the first one got rescheduled to August and then cancelled, and the October one went straight to a cancellation. They're all cancelled? So sorry ed, I've been following your progress on Facebook and here, and the tour looked fab
I know, but it's still disappointing. I really hope it manages to get rescheduled and you get to go to Canada.Yep. It was originally two tour five months apart. Then the first one got rescheduled to August and then cancelled, and the October one went straight to a cancellation.
I'm obviously a tad miffed - I've always, always wanted to go to Canada and this opportunity may never come around again - but at least I got to do one USA tour recently, and that's more than most musicians ever get. And, of course, there's shitloads of people having a far harder time of things, so in the grand scheme of things, I've no reason to moan!
I'm really not holding my breath on these, but the two tours have been merged into a fairly gruelling 16-date coast-to-coast adventure with a bit of Canada thrown in!
I say 'gruelling' but I'll love every bloody minute of it, and I know how lucky I am to get the chance (it if it goes ahead):

3 with the odd 4 was the max, depending on routing, that most of the bands I've worked would cope with before fatigue or more likely squabbles would happen lolThat's some schedule! We used to do 3 gigs in a row max. Best of luck, hope it happens.

If it's like the last one, we'll just get a big people carrying van with hotels every night seeing as we always use the gear at the venues or what's provided by the support band - so it's a fresh surprise every night for me on the drums (and not always a pleasant one!)Sounds about right. My touring years are a long way off now so you're probably more accurate.
Are you getting a big shiny American tour bus editor ?
Works great all round. The support band gets paid and also gets to play a reasonably high profile gig supporting a band they're usually big fans of, and we don't have to lug a shitload of gear around. It means that the shows become economically viable and - best of all - it means we usually get to travel by train around Europe rather than in a big polluting van.Headline band borrowing the supports gear is a new one on me
Also reduces the chance of a van robbery totally wrecking a tour! Known so many bands (on the smaller scale side of touring) it's happened to, a van full of very expensive equipment and money from being paid at gigs/merch is such a target... so that is actually a v big deal if it avoids any chance of that.Works great all round. The downsides are that I have the challenge of playing a different kit every night and the quality can be highly variable!
After a lifetime of playing shit venues and relentless failure, attaining the level of international 'cult status' is fine by me!Eventbrite doesn't sound too keen on your openers in nyc:
"In their heyday, the band never surpassed the level of cult status."
For small club/pub gigs, yeah, share kit. But the moment you get to anything remotely sizeable (Academy 2, small theatres etc) then as a tour manager or FOH engineer any headline band I was looking after would have “no backline sharing” on their rider. We’d also insist that once their gear was setup it didn’t get moved. Support kit gets put in whatever space is left.Kit sharing should be a given really unless there's some good reason not to, yet often it's one of those delicate matters which relies on goodwill and camaraderie between drummers.
I once saw a very animated Mark Brzezicki (ex-Big Country), perplexed at the suggestion that some other band might use his kit in situ at this tiny club night I was running while he was playing with some other unsigned act. It was honestly simpler all round to just have one kit on this tiny stage, and swap around the snare/cymbals but he wasn't having it. Twat.
