That album title - posh Latin for lying? Or...please explain. Ta.

It's all from Bid's wondrous mind:

"Fabula Mendax” is based on manuscripts written in the 15th Century by Armande de Pange, a companion of Jehanne d’Arc (Joan of Arc). This is The Monochrome Set at its most ornate, and, much like Joan of Arc’s ensemble, features a myriad of fiddlers, pluckers, beaters, tinklers and wailers, surrounding a central core of notorious crackpots. The hauntingly melodic pop harks back to the early TMS period of “Eine Symphonie Des Grauens”, but is now complemented by a (periodically unemployed) vampire’s orchestra, whose cha-cha-charnel chiming careens into carnal rhyming chanting, while saints and demons trip lightly across the slick red fields of liberty. As with all TMS albums, “Fabula Mendax” is at once accessible and arcane, upbeat and dark, lush and spare, and with lyrics that as ever remain tantalisingly opaque.

A solid 8/10 review in Uncut magazine although I'm not sure it actually tells you what the album sounds like (clue: nothing like the Moody fucking Blues!):

The album's had some great reviews but this is perhaps the oddest - and most enthusiastic - one to date!

We're only going to boody Japan tomorrow! I never thought I'd get to play Tokyo but I'm going to enjoy every minute of it. I'm old enough to know that good fortune rarely lasts so I'm going to soak this all up while it lasts!. The new album has picked up great reviews too.

So there's a record/fashion store in Tokyo named after the band's first album, which contains loads of Monochrome Set merchandise. Talk about a niche!

In Swansea, I reckon either The Garage (Uplands), or possibly The Bunkhouse (Kingsway), could be up for it editor ... definitely worth investigating in both cases!

But sadly, I don't personally know any bookers or managers at either

And if the price of securing a gig (in SA) is enduring Sin City, at least that's across the road from the Potters Wheel -- best Spoons in Swansea for quality ale at the moment.

That Bunkhouse seems to be almost nothing but Battle Of The Bands and tribute bands and I'm not seeing any bands in their event list that I've seen on our circuit. The Garage seems a bit more likely, but for a gig to work there would have to be sufficient local support - and it really is odd how some areas of the UK like us, and others aren't bothered at all!
