I just never knew about this. The Parliamentarian defences of London, miles of them and forts along the way, funded by the City, Westminster and Southwark with the Guilds volunteering labour. 20,000 people contributed, then ten years after the war, no trace remained. Incredible. The interactive map is useful at bringing it to life.
