The Islamic state

According to that scumbag if your husband starts yelling at you you should keep quiet and then when he's done, quietly ask if he wants a glass of water.

see, this is why so many women are still single into their late 30's - there's just no understanding of the social niceties.

could you post more of this stuff? my wife reads this, and its starting to make me look like less of a sexually disappointing, socially awkward mistake than she'd previously decided i was.. thanks.

Anyone seen another source for this? PKK YDG-H statement claiming they've killed an IS operative in Istanbul as a response to Suruc bombing.

fucking hell, that is pathetic.

this may be one of the best spent £60,000 in all of human history. raping, murdering, wife-beating peice of shit? check. pathetic, teenaged angst ridden prick inflicting appalling writing on anyone he's not raping, murdering, or beating? check...

who says nothing productive comes out of the defence budget....

You'll also be pleased to know that the reason why i found that blog is because i went to his blog to see if he was dead or not and found a post moaning that he thought he was about to be killed and how lonely he was without his friends, and posting a link to ten different sites asking people to promote his writing in the event of his death!
perhaps his career will only really take off when he's dead

I can't access that in this part of the world, but it sounds totally plausible. It's exactly what people in Turkey have feared for ages: the war coming home.

Trying to provoke Western intervention, in the sure knowledge that it would be the best recruiting tool they could possibly dream of? Check.

You Sir are an idiot.

YDG-H statement plus translation from twitter. Essentially - 'High ranking IS fighter/present at Kobani/tracked for 3 months/killed in response to Suruc massacre/expect more'

I certainly do expect more.

The really disturbing question is: what was a high-ranking IS fighter doing in Istanbul?

That's my fault for not typing out the entire press release - according to the (single source) statement, 'among ISIS fighters during the Kobani siege and had returned for treatment to Istanbul seven months ago'. He's named as Mursul Gul - which is a Turkish name, is it?

You're right of course but i really struggle with my dislike for military intervention vs wanting them all to meet a bad end :(

I know - but if/when the drone campaign kills more civilians than rotters, then it's morally bankrupt and politically counter-productive. And as phildwyer points out regularly, dead civilians are easily exploited by those pushing the jihadi narrative.

(ETA - I know you know this, too - I'm explaining my position, not trying to tell you yours).

Yeah mate. Some of the aftermath of the drone strikes are horrendous and it has the effect of making local people more likely to support/tolerate ISIS.

I fear it is. There was apparently a report on Turkish TV about Turks joining IS recently. Very depressing.

Fuck celebrating a drone as a dispenser of justice. 28 civilians killed by drones for every (extra-judicially designated) militant. Any evidence to suggest that British drones are more or less accurate than their US counterparts?

any evidence to suggest that a manned platform is any more or less accurate/discriminating than a UAV, or an artillery shell, or a magazine full of 7.62 short?

ISR is not perfect, targetting is not perfect, accuracy is not perfect, lethal effects area is not 30cm. you can either use what is available and live with the undesired effects, or you can use nothing and watch IS sweeping aside all before them.

purity has a cost.

That is true, though of course one shouldnt forget that that narrative is absurd - celebrating as it does the killing of "crusaders" such as poor Egyptian Copts, African migrants and the Christian residents of Iraq and Syria; or bemoaning the murder of Muslim civilians by drones whilst celebrating blowing other Muslims up at prayer.

Well thats the thing wtf do you do? Because 'non intervention' didnt really work either did it? Obamas hands off approach didnt stop them declaring the caliphate?

I am instinctively against war and i dont like the idea of getting sucked into another war in the middle east yet again especially when its gonna leave assad and jabhat al nusra (who are starting to scare me quite a lot) undisturbed.

But at the same time wtf do you do? ISIS are one of the cruellest, most evil forces operating in the middle east, if not the world, i dont even know what to say in the face of some of the things they do :(

It's pretty easy to "live with the undesired effects" when you live 2,000 miles away.

It's this, isn't it? The operators don't live with the undesired effects - & wouldn't tolerate them at home. '28 people hanged this morning in Strangeways - Department of Justice very confident that one of them was a notorious murderer'.

any evidence to suggest that a manned platform is any more or less accurate/discriminating than a UAV, or an artillery shell, or a magazine full of 7.62 short?

I'm confident there's evidence that the YPG aren't killing 28 civilians for every IS gang member they end in Rojava.

Exactly.

And furthermore, the fact that not only Western governments, but also large percentages of Western populations are apparently prepared to countenance such a loss of civilian life is interpreted by people in the Middle East as racism. Not entirely unreasonably, it must be said.

A small but significant number of such people then become angry enough to support or even to carry out terrorist attacks against Western civilian targets. The attitudes of kebabking and his wretched ilk come with a heavy price tag.

If some of your family were hit by one while going to a wedding , playing football or something I'd imagine Your attitude would be different . It's this very lack of identification with human beings that leads to the innocent being
picked off.

There's plenty of other options apart from " doing nothing " . It was intervention and destabilisation ..of three countries..that led to this mess in the first place . By twats who moaned " we must do something " . It's the attitude that other countries can be dicked about at will because Whitehall doesn't like their leaders which created this entire mess There's still hope for Syria . If they stop aiding and abetting IS by supplying weapons and funds to their fellow travellers elsewhere they'll be steam rollered in good time by the locals . Handing anti tank missiles and all sorts to the other beardies does nothing only help them .
