The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

Born 33 years ago on 11/10/1988, our family dog from December 88 until he passed in early September 2001. Nearly 13 years which is good for his pedigree. In his last year I had gone off to University. He used to go upstairs (with some difficulty) and look for me in my bedroom. My last memory of him is my parents coming to visit me at Uni with him, the excitement of a new place meant he was like a puppy again. Don’t have many digital pics of him sadly but the one below is on my desk in my office

Blue continuing to settle in. He's still very timid but getting more confident. Some foibles need ironing out - barking me awake at 3am so he can go out for a piss for example  Apart from that he's doing really well; lightly nibbled the skirting board by his bed but hoping that's stopped now. He's not been treated well in the past I don't think; if I walk towards him, he folds himself into a very submissive position - tail curled under, back legs down etc. We're getting there though, he's starting to learn how to play & he travelled perfectly in the van for a couple of hours yesterday.

New hound arrived yesterday :) Though I got overruled on the name and he's called Blue :D

He doesn't have a clue about anything - never been in a town, only been in houses briefly and infrequently. He only raced for 6 months & was last on the track in July. He's very unsure of everything - took a while to get him into the house but eventually coaxed him into the front room late last night. Ultimately, greyhounds gotta greyhound, so he's worked out where his beds are and has made full use. I think it'll take a while for him to settle in but he slept from midnight til 7am this morning which is a massive win.

Gradually getting closer...note bum not quite on the floor; ready to dash off at any second...

Made it indoors as far as the kitchen...cheese may have played a role...

Resting his muscles in the front room...8 hours after arriving at the house...

Me and my pinhead hound on a wake and bake walk this morning. Was lovely to be up and out at tit o clock in the morning with this doofus.

Big walk this morning and he's been shagged out ever since.

I love the selfie pic where he seems to have no ears.

Blue is settling in well :D
Cfy ;)

On the name...

Part of his racing name is Glasheen (Cork? He's got tatts in both ears so definitely Irish) and he'd been nicknamed Sheen at the rescue centre. I wasn't keen on that so favoured Barry. Obvs.

Wife & child nixed that so I went with Steve which sounds a bit like Sheen if you squint. I kind of did that unilaterally but could sense an undercurrent whenever I mentioned him. The day I picked him up, I asked outright about the name, neither of them liked it so I said 'Blue' & I think they were so relieved I didn't suggest Dave or Kev, they both agreed.

Also our next door neighbour's called Steve and although I found the idea of shouting 'don't shit on the lawn Steve' and 'stop licking your bollocks Steve' across the neighbourhood utterly hilarious, Mrs FA thought it might lead to rancour.

Barry would be a brilliant name for a dog imo.
