The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

I'm not getting attached or anything honestly* but I'm going to meet Steve on Saturday 😍

All I know about him is that he's blue, he's only had 1 trainer so assuming he didn't make the grade for some reason and he's only 2 years old. kabbes and others in the know - does this mean he might be more trainable? Bearing in mind he's probably quite thick. Once I've got him safe around smaller dogs (no idea about prey drive yet), could training classes work or is he too old? I'd love to be able to train a greyhound to come back when it's called. Like regularly not just when they feel like it.

There could be all kinds of reasons he didn’t make the grade. He may be able to be trained but not be interested in doing the thing he’s trained for, for instance. Anyway, it’s nice for them to learn some training even if they’re pants at it. Ted is rubbish at agility, mostly because he has no idea it’s supposed to be a race and just clowns his way around the course, but he still does it and loves it

Yes, could also be injury or some other reason - can't turn left or something.

Do you think any dog can be trained for recall? Greyhounds famously are rubbish at it & most guidance says don't bother, you can never trust them.

Ted is trained for recall and is absolutely perfect at it… until he sees a deer, at which point an explosion wouldn’t stop him taking off after that deer. I’m sure better trainers than us could fix this, but we’ve given up. He has to stay on a lead a lot now because otherwise the idiot gets himself lost once the chase is done. And that’s a collie with a chase drive. By comparison, are your chances good at getting through to a sight hound? I wouldn’t bet on it. I’ve no doubt that Steve Mann could manage it but most of us aren’t Steve Mann.
