The dog thread is better than the cat thread, because it features dogs.

Our airbnb comes with this very fine labradoggo

i used to stay at a b+b place that had a similar doggie. he got put out in the garden round breakfast time, so breakfast came with a doggie sitting outside the window looking sad and hungry...

International dog day people!

happy international dog day to dogs of urban

Cassie has to go to the vets tomorrow. She had difficulty breathing for a moment and has been really sneezy. I'm hoping it's just a pesky grass seed.

get well soon, cassie

Fleas….any tips that actually work?

Regular (monthly) doses of Frontline, or whatever toxic chemicals your vet is currently recommending, applied between the shoulders of the dog.

I did it every month without fail and none of the dogs in my care ever had fleas.

My neighbour's dog keeps getting fleas. She was reluctant to do what I advised but after many months (a year? ish) of trying everything else to no avail, finally gave in and did it two weeks ago. All fleas now gone. So it works as a preventative and as a treatment once infested, my anecdata would suggest!

We use Advocate every month which guards against fleas and lots of other nasties. We signed up to the vets service and we get 3 months at a time. They text us when we're due more and we take Cassie along to be weighed and pick up a new batch.
Apart from that we hoover a lot.

Aye, but check with your vet which flea treatment is currently advised - fleas sometimes become resistant to a particular treatment or brand, so check with your vet - you don't need to buy it from them (which is often more expensive) but do take their advice about which treatment is currently most appropriate.

Do make sure you treat at the right dose for the body weight though, friend of ours lost 2 cats due to being prescribed the wrong dose (for a much bigger animal) of flea treatment, one died within a few days, the other hung on for a month in renal failure before it was clear nothing could be done to help.

So please please don't take flea treatments lightly - make sure you get the right thing and are giving the right dose, always.
