The Bicycle Racing Thread 2015

Ha, what a muppet. I thought I was watching it live. I'm actually watching yesterday's stage.

Lol :D. Was a cracking stage though.

Final TT today will be very, very interesting though I still think the favourites are the same as before yesterday's stage.

Riis apparently suspended by his embarrassing team owner. Reports suggesting is due to lack of results rather than anything in the d Danish anti doping authority's report coming soon.

In racing news, vuelta a Catalonia organisers gave shoddy time gaps and a trio of riders managed to ride a 130km breakaway to win with an advantage of 2m40s. So basically GT top 10 regular Pierre Rolland has been given a near three minutes headstart in a week long state race. Will be interesting to see what his form is like.

Dismal is the answer. Bart de Clerq on the other hand might take the second win if his who career.

It's a good race this year actually, despite tv coverage problems. The head start for three outsiders, combined with the unpredictable form of the big names is making it exciting. Porte and Contador on about the same level, which you'd take as a good sign for Froome... if Froome wasn't plugging away somewhere back down the mountain himself.

Yup. More worryingly, Bardet came in with the autobus today. Think Froome might still be recovering from illness, so no alarms. Yet. Giro should be tasty though between Porte and Contador, with Pozzo, Uran and a few others keeping them honest.

In other news, Pinot is racing Criterium International this weekend and had this to say in an interview when asked about the TT:

Pinot said:
I am happy that there will be one. I would‘ve even preferred it be a little longer.

Seriously. When was the last time a French GC rider was happy at the prospect of a TT?

Good win for Thomas. He looked very strong. Strange to think that he's 28 now and prior to today he really hadn't won much of note. The Bayern-Rundfahrt or the couple of other minor stage races he's won would be a big deal for most riders, but he's been tipped as a big talent from day one. Hopefully he can win one of the cobbled monuments in the next couple of years. He's in with a shout this year: No Boonen and no Cancellara means that there are pretty much no previous winners of Roubaix or the RVV amongst the favourites.

The Flandrians will need to save some face after last years disaster at the Ronde (and this was compounded by the Het Nieuwsblad result this year)...it *has* to be a Flandrian winner, they will work across teams as a coalition to block out everyone else. Thomas might be denied a shot at Roubaix if he has to ride for the mod but Sky for once have a cracking line up with Stannard, Thomas and Wiggins...all fit. I guess we just won't know Wiggin's form though until Trouee d'Arenberg.

I'm still not convinced that Wiggins can win. Not unless he can ride away from everyone like Cancellara or Boonen in their prime.

Those performances were from the other side of the fence though weren't they?

He doesn't need to ride away like Chinny, he just needs to rid away like Terpstra.

He'll need at least one team mate with him then, cos for all that people are talking down his chance he'll be marked like hell IMO.

He could have two. Sky actually have three riders who are capable of winning a cobbled race, although Stannard looked a bit off the pace at E3. Problem is though that none of the three of them are likely to win from a sprint against many of the other contenders, so if any of them do it they will probably have to arrive solo.
