thank you brixton

Your loss. Patsy Kensit is going to be there n everything.

Not sure of the relevance she has but I have some gossip anyway.

I grew up on the same council estate as her in Houslow (West London). Here's a lovely pic of her sharing a moment with the equally lovely Liz Hurley...Ah bless em.

Going back to the OP. Here's another article and photo about it...

Is anyone in that photo over 18??

I think some of them are. You don't spend enough time around youngsters if you think they are all under 18. There was plenty of footage of older people, people who lived through it and those youngsters are affected by the legacy still, so they have the right to be joyful that she is no more. Shame the legacy lives on though :(

Sure looks like a lot more than 200 to me. What do you think?

Looks like Williamsburg on a Friday night.

*Like I would know what Williamsburg looks like on a Friday night. :(

funnily enough, very few older or more 'normal' looking people seem to have gotten into any pictures that ended up in the mainstream media. take a look at editor's photos and you will probably see a fair amount of common-or-garden ordinary folk and not photogenic young people that fit the 'dismiss as ignorant young people being tasteless' story.

Why are you posting this picture here when it has no relation whatsoever to the discussion? The politics forum is not a place to post Phwoar pictures.

There was a very broad range of ages in Leeds (in the bar, not on the street), lots of oldies, plus people who'd turned up for a gig and a Greenpeace meeting at the same venue who joined in with a smile. Quite a lot of LGBT, understandably. Good bar takings for a Monday night I reckon, thanks Thatch.

I'm disappointed by how many young people are in the pictures. They can't truly know how bad she was.

You weren't there maan! /post Vietnam voice.

Your disappointed that young people pay attention to politics and history?
How very sad.
I would dread to think what makes you proud of young people.

What's wrong with youngsters protesting about Thatcher? They're condemned to pisspoor wages and a shitty standard of living and they understand that Thatcherism is the cause. Good for them.
There's nothing wrong with it at all, I think it's to be encouraged and recalled when politicians claim that youngsters won't engage with politics.
What's wrong is that the press coverage, by focussing on young people, is dismissive; as though they don't know what they're celebrating while the older people, who felt strongly compelled to celebrate because of their experience, are not represented as they might have to acknowledge their grievances and because its less easy to discredit their celebrations.

I'm 40.

Her defiance and ruthlessness towards the IRA was her greatest quality in my opinion. The rest of her politics I didn't care for though.

Don't forget Thatcher signed the Anglo-Irish agreement which paved the way for peace talks and eventually the 1998 Good Friday agreement.

I am not a moderator by the way. I'm a mod as it 60s throwback.

No. You're just a fucking throwback.

Well done Brixton. You're the best place in London by a mile.

Also - made it into the New York Times.

Not entirely accurate journalism here but anyway....

Hundreds of her opponents gathered at the site of violent protests against her policies in the 1980s, with a small crowd in Brixton, in south London — where anti-Thatcher riots broke out in 1981 — chanting “Maggie, Maggie, Maggie — Dead, Dead, Dead.”

I didn't even bring her up! Read the thread.

Anyway....is rather look at that than think about Thatcher.....unless I was gonna come too quickly.

You posted the picture, care to explain why you thought it was appropriate to do so?
I for one would appreciate it if you confined such juvenile, sniggering shite to discussions where they might be appropriate. Does FHM still have a forum?
