Teeth whitening -what can you tell me?

I've got pretty good teeth on the whole but they're looking a bit dull and discoloured. I like the idea of having them whitened but don't know anything about it. Any advice/experience?

I'm not thinking of going to Turkey, by the way!

I spoke to my dentist about this but I have some white (ish) fillings which wouldn't whiten like my actual teeth would so my teeth would end up looking blotchy.
