South East London Curry date!

I was discussing this with grinder when he got home. It often happens with group meals where people leave in dribs and drabs before the bill. I don't think it's intentional, but ime people often forget to leave a proper tip, and also forget things like poppadoms etc which are often charged for. And then there's just drunken miscalculation/forgetting how many nans/drinks etc.

it's mystifying though, because surely everyone's been that person at the end having to pay more for other people's tips than their whle share of the bill.

edit - as you've pretty much said above.

I think it always happens in group meals, actually :)

I was a bit startled at how expensive the drinks were, actually, myself...

I am not bothered about it, except that I can't afford to overpay by £35. Everyone was offering to pay the missing bit, but I just thought it was probably easiest if I did it, and then people paid me back at the next drinks or whatever.

I think this is mine:

chutney tray 0.75
coffee 2.5
Guest ale 5.5
Guest ale 5.5
[Guest ale 5.5] He may have sneaked in an extra beer when I wasn't paying attention. :hmm:
lamb and sweetcorn 11.95
lemon rice 3.5
papadum 1.5
potato chop 5.5

Tip 3.31

Total £45.51

So... I probably owe you £5.51

(one extra beer and a penny!)

ETA: What are the "Whitstable Bays" at the end?

I think they are beer as well.

I have only marked you as two beers for now - let's see how many get claimed :)

But he was quite attentive on the beer front, wasn't he?

Ah, OK :)

He was definitely a good host.
I thought he was great. He wasn't fazed at all by the fact that our numbers were nothing like predicted, and I thought he was just the right amount of attentive.

And he got most of the dishes in front of the right person without having to call out and ask us all what we had ordered, which made it much more pleasant and peaceful then some group dinners I have been to!

I had two beers, monsuri murgh, sev puri, afghan nan and plain rice. Comes to £29.95. Plus £5.56 for sundries and tip comes to £35.51 - I put in £35 so I owe you 50p. I didn't hear you mention the £1.50 for the poppadoms or I'd have adjusted up a bit, sorry.

Also to echo what everyone else said - thanks for organising. :)

It is fine - I am not sure at what point I spotted the bits for poppadoms and chutney having been added.

The wine portions were quite generous, so I was pretty drunk by the end :)

I am quite enjoying colour coding the list according to people's names, as I have these confirmed.

I have no idea why I am enjoying it - perhaps because I am tired and hungover :)

And there are not 14 distinct colours anyway!

Mine is Paneer Shaslik - 8.95
Lemon Rice - 3.5
Pompadom - 1.5
Chhutney 0.75
Small tiger 3.75

=18.45

I gave you £20. What % is the tip? :)

We rounded the tip up to 580, which meant we only gave them 46.30, which is less than 10%. I just thought it would be easiest to divide that by 14, rather than people trying to work out whatever the percentage was.

Pretty good tip from me due to poor estimating skills:D:D

it was nice - smooth and I liked the colour - not being a gin aficionado who knows if it was dryer than other gin?

Me=£36.90 Not cheap but best curry I've had in a long time.

afghan nan 3.25
chutney tray 0.75
kingfisher 5.75
lamb and sweetcorn 11.95
papadum 1.5
potato chop 5.5
Saffron G&T 5.95
sag paneer 2.25 (shared so half cost to pay)

I gave you £40 so pretty close. I hadn't properly thought about the papadum/chutney charges. Thanks for organising and let me know if you need more cash.

I think you were close enough, once the share of the tip was added in! :)

I did warn people that it was not cheap, so I hope no-one was surprised. I was in another Indian restaurant recently, which was comparable prices, so maybe it is just that i am used to going to cheap and cheerful Indian takeaways near me :)

I believe mine came to £30.25 and I paid £40.

3xsaffron G&Ts
1 lemon rice
1 sev puri
1 sag paneer
(I didn't have a main)

If it doesn't get worked out - we should split it between us and make sure you are reimbursed.

(it wasn't cheap and I was surprised - because I wasn't paying attention - not because you didn't say, but I had a very lovely night and very rarely go out and needed a boost, so I'm happy with it).

Since quite a few of you paid more than you needed to, there must still be a few people who underpaid :)

But it looks like I am getting close. I am now short by £25, and Alan owes me a lot of that :D

Even I was surprised at how expensive it was, because I hadn't factored in the cost of the drinks. But I thought it was lovely, and it certainly felt like a treat, and I certainly needed a treat, having had a pretty shit time recently, myself :)

I once had a more expensive one - at the Cinnamon Club in central London - but I wasn't paying, and I didn't think it was as good as the Indian Dining Club (for vegetarians, at least!).

I think it is worth it at the Indian Dining Club, although I can't afford to go there often, and it certainly felt like a treat on Friday in every respect.
