South East London Curry date!

Glad to hear you've identified nearly all the shortfall. Did anyone claim the other guest beers or is it me who effectively owes you a fiver?
There are still loads of people who have not admitted to their food and drink, and there must still be people who have underpaid, because several people overpaid as well as me.

I think that was all I had. I put in £50 but don't want or expect any back as it allows a margin of error and to be honest you pay much more £4.95 for a glass of decent wine in lots of other places so I'm OK with that. :D:oops:

i really enjoyed this special occasion place and food and company
however the week before I went to the north london urban curry meet in weatherspoons at turnpike line
£5.49 for a curry and a drink (even advertised a vegan version)
so maybe we can ring the changes and go for an el cheapo one too? maybe at one of the next se drinks?

some SE weatherspoons

plus the fox on the hill - that's a nice pub - anyone fancy a thursday curry club there?

I agree that we wouldn't go to Indian Dining Club routinely. I said from early on that it was a bit expensive but very good. As someone with no income at the moment, and savings which are rapidly running out, it was a big deal for me to go there at all, so I am glad that it was so good, and that everyone enjoyed it.

I would be happy to meet in a Wetherspoons, but I would never eat a curry in one :D

I loved Friday evening - it was the most refined urban gathering I have ever experienced
it was well worth the money to have such good service and space locally

the weatherspoons curry was ok in a 'need to eat something cos I've just come from work ' way
it also means more people can come whatever their income

I have tried the wetherspoons curry, and won't be trying it again but, as I say, I am perfectly happy to meet in a Wetherspoons. In fact, the Fox on the Hill has become a bit of an urban pub, I believe, being as how it is near the Hamlet football ground.

There are plenty of wetherspoons pubs in South East London. There is a big one in Forest Hill that used to be a cinema, for example, and I can think of 4 in Croydon centre, but I am sure there are more. There is one in Crystal Palace (and they have just bought what used to be the Camra pub of the year (it lost that standing when Wetherspoons bought it) although they are not running it yet). There is even one in South Norwood, but we tried South Norwood, and look how well that worked out :D

There have been Urban meets in Wetherspoons before and they've gone very well. As mentioned they're more accessible to anyone who's a bit skint. So yeah drinks there would be fine.

That said I'm not sure their curry specifically is a big draw.:p

Well what makes a big difference is going for a curry where it's BYOB.

Yes, I was wondering what we always do at Khan's then remembered it was BYOB!

(Re Khans - I have to say, I've been there a couple of times since the last Urban Christmas curry and thought it quite pricey, although good food and service.)

I know it's SW but if people are up for curry fun, we should head to Tooting really - or Norbury.... preferably for foot long dosas! (or dosae? :D)

I don't know if you were thinking of the wonderful (and very cheap!) Shahee in Norbury but it's unfortunately gone. :( It did fantastic dosas that resembled the gramophone on the classic His Master's Voice ads.

It was also so veggie that they mentioned not just if food was vegan but if it had onions and garlic, in case you were Jain!

RIP the Shahee, scene of many a happy gluttonous evening.

It may well not even be the one you mean. :D

oryx - I didn't really have anywhere specific in mind tbh... happy to go anywhere really. Although as a veggie i do like Southern indian veggie stuff - dosas/bel phuri etc.

how do people get to tooting?

I guess it depends on where they are coming from in the first place. I appreciate that for some people it may be a journey too far, but maybe some other people might like to give it a go. I'm not even sure how I'd get there tbh by public transport, I would normally cycle - probably train to Balham then bus/walk - so same as Guin.

(but then I once travelled to Wembley for an urban curry so a short train ride/bus is not gonna stand in between me and my curry!)
