So...The Stone Roses reunion then...

Will The Stone Roses reunion be excellent or shite?

It wasn't like that yesterday. We had a 'few' pints in Manchester first and every pub we went in to was buzzing with excitement and anticipation. We arrived just as The Wailers were on and the sun was shining, so that was a great start. Only went to the bar once and it took no more than 10 minutes, and I had a hip flask full of brandy anyway. Plan B was great, really going for it. I'm not a big fan but was surprised how good it was. Well, what can I say about the Stone Roses...the second Mani played the opening bass line to I Wanna Be Adored I have never seen so many happy faces jump and sing like that. I spent the next two hours dancing, singing, hugging my friends and happy strangers around us. It was a magical and spiritual night for me. I may be going on a bit here but it really was superb. A few tears of joy at the end hehe, but I'm an emotional fella. I just loved it and it blew my expectations into another planet! Feeling rough as fuck on this train home now, but very happy :)

Reminds me of the time I saw the Smiths at the Free Trade Hall. Emotional stuff. Can't really see them getting back together though.

So who's got tickets this time round then..?

About 20 of us are going to Finsbury Park on the Friday. Fat Dads Awayday :D

So I got around to watching the Shane Meadows documentary film on the Roses reunion...im not a fan but have been learning to like them...mainly put off by the reverence with which they are treated - #1 band of All Time in some polls etc - good indie band for sure, but ive never understood that...anyway

one other thing that puts me off is some of the lyrics and what ive felt to be Ian Browns messiah complex...not just with the We're the Best BAnd Ever pronouncements they made all along, even before the first album came out...tunes like I Wanna Be Adored...I Am The Ressurection...album called The Second Coming etc... maybe im getting the wrong end of the stick here...but then in the film they show their first warm up reunion gig at a small hall in Warrington IIRC, and Ians last words to the screaming crowd after the final number are "Am I still good looking?" ...crowd kind of said Yes back, and then the band walked off.

Its not unusual for a front man in a rock band to fancy himself, but i just find it a bit much and off putting. Aside from the music I think one of the reasons they have the devotional fans they do is because of a subconscious reaction to these "worship me" messages.

One last observation was that a lot of the song melodies are very folky - i cant give an example as i dont know the material well enough, but i reckon you could do a sandal folk cover band of the stone roses no problem
