Snooker 2024-25

That reminds me of a piece of commentary from a few years ago:

"Of course we didn't have super slo-mo in our day... but we did have Terry Griffiths."
And Cliff Thorburn. And Eddie Charlton. The 'grinders' were very commonplace.

Generally, the pace of play is much higher than it was, and break-building is also higher. Back in the 80s, they'd flash on the screen when a break reached 40. Oooooh.

How long this evening before someone says, "Barry needs to win this first frame"?

I find myself sometimes saying things on a shot, only to hear it repeated verbatim by a commentator. That's the case even when it's not a cliché. Should I be worried?

There was a nice tribute to Griffiths on TV earlier, including him coaching a baby Mark Williams. I admit I'm relatively new to snooker so I don't know too much about him, but dementia is a cruel disease.

What draws is everyone looking forward to? We've got a repeat of Trump and Hawkins:
  • O'Sullivan vs Higgins
  • Murphy vs Gary Wilson
  • Allen vs Si
  • Selby vs Carter
  • Trump vs Hawkins
  • Williams vs Ding
  • Brecel vs Wakelin
  • Kyren Wilson vs Zhang

I like both Williams and Ding so that'll be fun. I wish Murphy had gotten Allen just because Allen would annoy the SHIT out of him.

For once I actually agree with Murphy in this latest spat. Is there actually anyone Mark Allen hasn't slagged off? The Mark Joyce rant was the best one - "I don't like Mark Joyce, basically he is a dick, on and off the table, I doubt even his mum likes him." 😂

The same year as Ray Reardon too.

Whilst I don't think I have the vitriol some of you obviously possess towards him, i'm seeing what you mean about Murphy's commentary. His voice isn't right for it, too animated.

Steve Davis gave an interesting commentary, saying how chalk on the cushions could affect the speed of the bounce. He said it can come off the cushion faster than it hit which had puzzled me when people had said it before. I'd not thought of the spin
