Sinead O'Connor's letter to Miley Cyrus

Fair play to her. It's been a long voyage of self-discovery and working out her shit in public. If she's found peace in it, that's the main thing. Dread to think of the abuse she's getting on social media, though :(

The great thing about converting to Islam from Catholicism is it allows the same kind of strangled, authoritarian beliefs about life and the world to to remain intact, but removes any need to pay allegiance to a patriarchy (as long as you forget that Allah, His prophets and all His clerics are male but there y'go).

Arabic-tinged album release in 10-9-8...

Yeah, definitely the natural choice for those with a bent for feminism.

Too secretive, can't talk about it enough. She wouldn't like that.
if you're in the a.'.a.' then it's super secret, but if you're in the oto it's less so. however, you don't have to belong to either of those bodies and can spill the beans if you desire - after all the information's readily available.

In 2013 she was the only person I made time to go and see at Glastonbury. Well worth it.

Ah I'm going to share this now, because why not. Because I've been disparaging when actually I love S O'C.

Glastonbury 2013, she headlined the acoustic tent, which was literally across the entire site from where I was working. I took my one night off of the week and hiked from one hillside to the other through Friday night crowds just to see her play. The crowd was big and the tent was full. Lots of people on chairs inside so the audience spilled out. I had drinks and watched from a picnic table outside, chatting with randoms and enjoying the new material, the first part of the set was all new.

Then she played Nothing Compares 2 U and that was the first time I lost my shit and cried. But during that tune, masses of other people ran up, hearing it and wanting (I guess) their Glasto Moment (TM) of seeing S O'C play her most famous hit.

She finished to huge applause, obvs.

Then (and this was weird) half the audience fucked off, just wandered away. I was flabbergasted, actually - but it made room for me to go inside to see the rest. And after playing something obscure that I don't remember, her crowd was probably 1/3 what it had been. And then she played literally a Greatest Hits set, Fire on Babylon, I do Not Want..., Black Boys on Mopeds, Last Day of our Acquaintance, Emperor's New Clothes, I mean it was awesome. Like a gift for all the trve fans who stayed to listen past the big number one.

I love her, I just don't see why she has to keep making a massive thing out of her religious journey, I mean. More music, less pontificating (sic.)

EtA, and me, I don't remember what happens from one year to the next. One big blur of light and sound and smell...

It says little for my musical (or other) sensibilities to admit that I didn’t realise she and Lisa stansfield were separate people until. Idk, really. Possibly the whole Miley thing. (Unless Lisa has been in the news recently?)
