Exasperated, not angry.
The seat most will be looking at for a 'Portillo moment' this time round - a rather differnt kind of Cleggmania this time around. Labour are pretty much neck and neck according to the polls, but could you bring yourself to vote for them, just to see the look on Clegg's face? Or would you stick yo your spunking cock (aka Green) principles?

Now that nominatons are closed, these are your candidates:

Liberal Democrat Nick Clegg
English Democrats Steve Clegg
Labour Oliver Coppard
Green Peter Garbutt
UKIP Joe Jenkins
Independent Carlton Reeve
Independent Jim Stop the Fiasco Wild
Conservative Ian Walker

Are the English Democrats going for a deliberate spoiler vote there?

Carlton Reeve appears to be a local small businessman and lecturer, who wants to hive off government to 'experts.'

Jim Wild may or may not be a Professor of Magnetic Resonance Physics. Probably not.

Having met both Oliver Coppard and Peter Garbutt, trust me when I say that Clegg might be the more likeable of the three.

As if a vote for any of these scumfucks is worth tarnishing yourself for.

I have met Peter Garbutt and he is just terrible, never met Coppard but I know enough about him to know that he is a cunt but it's about a symbolic decapitation not about voting in someone who is not a cunt.

if people only went for symbolick decapitations there'd never have been an english republick

I never said I was against literal ones ;)

BTW has anyone put a bet on Sheffield Hallam? You can still get some very good odds on a Labour win

I'm not surprised. I reckon any constituency-level polls will be untrustworthy due to shy LibDem voters, as per the '92 election when there were shy Tory ones.

i think the tories would withdraw from the contest as in or out of government he is too useful to them.

They pretty much have withdrawn, token campaign at best. I think it was brogdale put up some stats on the polling thread about numbers of people in Sheffield Hallam contacted by candidates - the tories were at a fraction of labour and the libs.

They have effectively withdrawn from this contest. The Ashcroft data on contact(s) from the various parties showed that in Hallam only 13% of those polled had heard from the tories. Their contact figures in all other comparable marginals were more in the region of 50 to 70%. It looks as though Vermin high command has instructed their local association to ease off; quite possibly as a result of some promise made to Clegg? From the tories point of view they might be honouring some condition but they are also making it easier for Labour to decapitate the LDs.
