It'll set you back €45000 euros though.

I'm with Bees. That looks disgusting. I wouldn't want to be seen anywhere near it.

That looks awful :D

Telecasters should be battered to fuck and be in the hands of someone who drank a bottle of whiskey for breakfast, not looking like a piece of 14th century french furniture.
I agree. Actually, that should probably be true - to varying degrees - of most electrics.

Come to that, I notice that my Blue Electric VIolin's acquired a nasty bash down the side of it. I can't remember being that pissed last time I used it...

I don't think I've ever seen an SG that wasn't black or red - it is an SG, right?

It is an SG.
It was a LTD edition colour with dirty fingers pick ups.
They are really really loud, more so than active ones.
The pickups on my Flying V are far far louder than any of my other guitars, but these pick ups make it sound like it is barely on.

They are wound far tighter, but that loses the high end, so they do it round ceramic pick ups (or something) to compensate. It gives it quite a strange sound. I would not have thought it would be to everyone's taste.

One worse.

I can't work out which I hate more, "technical" death metal or the fashion for unnecessary X string bass guitars. What possible need is there for a 10 string fucking bass? what are they getting out of that? What need is meant to be fulfilled? What person sat and said "shit I need another 6 strings for my bass to make this song work" when?

It breaks my heart seeing some incredibly talented musician, someone who must have spent hours upon hours practicing to get to such a level of technical ability, decide to utilise those talents by playing fucking technical death metal. Why bother being technical when whatever it is you're playing is going to be played at 200mph with the most scooped out OTT distortion possible, all beneath blast beats and 3 layers of death metal screaming? What's the point of putting all those immense sweeps and fingertapping and all the rest of it when the outcome is a just a blurry mess of noise?

Quite. Even 5 string ones get on my nerves.

I feel the same way about 7 string guitars, I know there's an argument that if you're in like a death metal band or something you need that low end but what's wrong with downtuning? Tony Iommi managed to create that heavy metal sound with nothing but a 6-string SG tuned to C# and that sounds like hell breaking open.

Anyway if you're in a band that needs to sound that grotty and nasty (Korn?) then maybe you should consider growing up and playing a different type of music.

I hope not coz he's A) Smashing Pumpkins were shit and B) he's a big David Icke fan

I've got a LAG GLA 200 parlour electro-acoustic guitar. It's absolutely gorgeous, it's the sweetest tone possible from an acoustic. It was on offer at under £200, so I think I got a bit of a bargain. Sounds significantly different coz of the type of wood and the shape of the body. Slightly wider fretboard, which is OK for me because I've got big hands but my mam can't play it very well coz she's got little hands, and the action is just perfect. I've had it years 7 years now and I can still play every note on every fret right upto the 14th without a hint of buzz off the fretboard or anything. Looks really nice, here's a pic, but mine has taken some damage. I dropped it on Lower Broughton Road in Salford a few years ago, back when I was drinking, and a it took a big hole out of the front, but I managed to put it back in place with some duct tape and lots of Axe the Bedrom Tax stickers, so it sounds just as good just looks a bit battered:

Then Pete Doherty started fucking using them. Whenever he's doing his little shite noodling around things he's always using a Lag. Really fucks me off. People think I bought it because I want to sound like Pete Doherty.

Anyway who else had one of these monstrosities when they were an angsty hormonal teenager? I had one for a bit but I sold it on :(

For some reason I thought you weren't a Gibson fan. That guitar is beautiful. How much was it?
I'm not a fan of any particular brand, but if I was it would probably be Gibson, even though I get a bit annoyed by the feeble build quality in places and the overpriced aspect.

When I was looking for a guitar a while back the nicest one I played was an SG, light cherry coloured, gorgeous thing, great neck, right price (£999)...but I didn't buy it cos I tend to leave guitars around the place and I'd heard horror stories of Gibsons falling over and necks breaking. Probably an over-cautious response...but a couple of weeks after buying my tele it fell over onto the edge of my PC desk, on its neck. Not a scratch, wasn't even out of tune. That's what put me off Gibson. Your blue dirty fingers SG looks smart though, would have if money no object - do you reckon it might end up being a bit of a one-trick pony?

do you reckon it might end up being a bit of a one-trick pony?

I have 11 guitars. If it is a one trick pony that's fine by me. I only have about one trick anyway.
It's always more about amps and eq and mixing anyway.

Neck on my tele is too thick and only held on by three bolts, that causes so many more problems than fixed neck gibsons. I use it so rarely it will probably out survive everything else I have (though I did see one being sold for stupid money in a denmark street shop so I might well just sell it on).

I think the strength may vary from model to model, but I don't think the price is always a factor.

I've come across a few.

Gibson headstocks are angled back 17 degrees. If you let the guitar fall flat on its back, there's a fair chance the blow, plus the tension in the strings, will snap the neck somewhere around the E-string tuners and the nut. Breaking the neck where it joins the body happens occasionally. I've only seen it once though.

They can be repaired, but I'd not have too much confidence in the guitar.

I imagine it won't do anything to improve the sound.

So I'm very careful with my Gibsons. Fenders - you can play cricket with them.

I broke the neck on a firebird in about the same place as that picture. I thought it was fucked forever. About 5 or 6 years later I actually got around to fixing it. I bought some cheap wood glue and a little clamp. It was as good as new.

Interesting question. Maybe it's because I am used to playing unfretted instruments, but my eyes play no part whatsoever in deciding where my fingers are going to go. Admittedly, I have a lot less neck to find my way around than you do there... :)

While I am on the subject, why don't guitars come with the fret markings on the back? It's not like you stand in front of them when you play them.
You are above and behind them . . . in the dark.
You need to use your eyes to know where to put your fingers when playing an instrument  :hmm:

If I am star jumping from one end of a stage to another with lights being shone in my face, going from an open E to a high barre A at the other end of the neck, I will indeed take a quick glance at I am doing.
