Self-indulgent pet thread

OK last one and you're all caught up (except for the recent visitors).

This is Grimm. He's an albino hob who got rehomed from a sanctuary that was closing down. I don't know anything about his former former owners. Grimm's quite old. He's got tolerated outsider status (he's OK for sleepy snuggles but not for games) among our ferrets (see up thread for them) and the misfits. It took Bill and Ben a year to get that status, it took Grimm a month. An all round easy going boy.

Saffy how is Cassie today?
Well, we're a week after she was first poorly and I'm so happy to say that she's a lot better. :)
It took ages for her to eat anything and I got myself in a proper state over it. (Cooking chicken and rice, different dog foods)
In the end I found some of her first puppy food and she ate that, no problem. After that I've been putting her normal dry food into a sandwich bag and smashing it up with a hammer to make it smaller.:D
It turns out she's losing her baby teeth and finding it hard to chomp.
But yes, she's better, thank you. :)

How does Breeze know she's not supposed to eat them piggies?

cats are often* good at recognising that some creatures are friends not food.

have told the story before, but when i lived with two kittehs, one was something of a hunter, the other was something of a dopey kitteh - the only time i know he caught a mouse, i think he wanted to keep it as a pet. (caught him trying to snuggle in front of the fire with mousie, and he seemed sad that mousie kept trying to run away.)

one time, we ended up with a mouse living in the kitchen - no idea how he got there, but it's possible that dopey cat brought it in and put it down and forgot about it.

after a few days, much meowing from the direction of the kitchen - i went to go and see wtf was going on. hunter kitty had mousie firmly by the tail, but unharmed. i can only assume that the meowing was to get my attention, and to ask whether this mouse was family or dinner.

feline ethics is complicated.

also, kevin richardson hasn't been eaten yet.

* - no guarantees, though - if one of the piggies did make a run for it, the chase / pounce urge might take over.

So...Lucy moved in tonight. :) I have agreed a long term fostering arrangement. She will be retired to Portugal next year with the parents of her previous owners.

They made me an offer I couldn't refuse. They are ex neighbours and good friends of mine. All vet bills, insurance and food paid for, dog sitters whenever I want/need. They just can't take her on full time now because of where they live.

She came running in this evening and jumped all over me before sniffing out every corner of the house. Apparently she started whining/crying in the car as they turned into my road.

It was a very touching goodbye outside mine when her owners left, I decided to take her out at the same time as they left...big cuddles and a few tears from them, Lucy however dragged me up the street in the direction of the park, she remembers well

After we got back from the park, she followed me around for a bit but is currently on the sofa snoring.

Pretty much as Puddy_Tat says, I think. If she gets close enough to them, she seems only interested in sniffing their bottoms, ears and faces rather than grabbing a knife and fork! However, the supervision is VERY close just in case. Mal in particular has a tendency to rush up to cats and get in their faces, so I can never be sure if his over-confidence might be repaid by a startled swipe or chomp!

We've spent all afternoon in the garden. Giz kept running down into the woods and then coming back to lie in the sun for a couple of minutes.

I thought he was just having a sniff around and trying to catch birds until he started wagging his tail like mad and another dog stuck its head round the gate. He got attacked by off-lead dogs three times last year and he's been a bit unpredictable with other dogs since - I only let them in the woods because there's no way in from the road. but also  that he managed to play nicely

Looking for his friend -

Otherdog (her name is Crystal. I have no idea why - it's a fucking stupid name) poked her head around the door to see what was going on and then decided it was all far too much effort and went back in for another nap.
