Saddam Hussein visited by wife...

"Dear wife, I'm doing OK, the food's not as good as your cooking, and the decor in my cell is not really what I'm used to, but they tell me I'll be out soon, and look forward to seeing you again when this is all over. Much love, Saddam" - Oh my god he's an imposter! He always calls me 'snuggles'!

If a very close relative wrote to me and I had any doubts that it was an impostor (which Saddam's wife perhaps might have) it would be simple to ask any one of a dozen probing questions, perhaps asking them to recount again what happened at a particular event that only we knew about. The deceit would be unravelled in one letter.

Er three letters surely? - One to arouse your suspicions, one in which you ask him the question, and one for his reply?

er, somewhat pedantic. His response to mine, naturally.

Eh, I can buy letters being forged. I doubt there was a lot of two-way correspondence, there would have been censorship expected even if they were real, and the US would have had access to his personal correspondence so could fake them. Not 100% certain, sure, but just because she didn't say anything doesn't mean they were real.

However, I would have thought that if his wife had said it wasn't him, I would have thought it would be all over the Arab press; somewhere other than Pravda, certainly. A bit of corroboration is necessary here.

Yes Fridge.

I've checked BBC News Middle East.... not a mention. I've checked Google which summarises news feeds from dozens of organisations.... not a mention.

The Pravda journo in the story DrJazzz linked to failed to mention how he came about the information.

Surely this would be front page news if it were genuine. But it's not.

Once more Dr Jazzz you've wasted our time.

I've just had a look at that PRAVDA site. What a complete load of garbage. I can't believe any half intelligent person would use this site to back up their arguments. This leads me to the conclusion that Dr.J is a complete wind-up merchant who just enjoys leading people on a merry dance with his absurd claims. You had me fooled for a while there but no more. ;)
